This is not true for sealed liquor. Sealed liquor- sealed in it's original container, can be anywhere in the vehicle. "open" liquor, open in this sense meaning "unsealed" can only be transported if out of reach to the driver. So your sealed 12-pack can go in your passenger seat. Your half-filled mickey of vodka needs to be in the trunk.

So what if you buy a 12pack of bottles (so it’s in the box), drink one, and then take 11 into your passenger seat (in the box, but the box is opened). Is this considered sealed? I know it may sound dumb with the fact each bottle is sealed, but the case isn’t. Just a question on a personal knowledge level.

The 11 full bottles are considered sealed and can be in the car as its the bottle cap and not the box that seals them. In a similar vien, a cooler full of sealed beer cans/bottles is allowed in the car. Best to not have the one "empty" bottle anywhere in the car however as it can, in a stretch, be considered an open container.
