Default Nabby & Varly in THN Yearbook

Hey guys I need some help!

I stopped by a Borders bookstore on my way home from giving a lesson and tried to pick up a copy, but alas they were out. For tomorrow's School of Block I'm writing up something on the two russian goalies.

I am wondering what THN has, if anything, predicted for Varlamov and Nabokov. If someone could just reply with what THN is quoted as predicting for these two goalies, I'd really appreciate it!

I did not renew my THN subscription for the first time in 15 years and ironically now looking for the Yearbook issue LOL.

According to the THN Pool Guide:

Varlamov: "Took over No. 1 role in playoffs and isn't giving it back." 37 W, 7 SO, 2.35 GAA, .917 SP.

Nabby: "Most important stat for a goalie is wins and he gets plenty of those." 47 W, 7 SO, 2.39 GAA, .910 SP.

Woah that's a bit wild of a projection in both cases.

Nabokov: 47 wins used to be the all-time record prior to Brodeur and Luongo's magical seasons. I thought seeing Nabby hit 46 was more of an oddity than the norm.

Varlamov: It's never a straight line to elite goalie status. He was not the most consistent in his playoff run and I expect him to stumble at times in his rookie season. Theodore is in a contract year and that usually brings magic out of him, but his family death will surely weigh on him, especially early in the season. I would expect more of a split.

    Wow.

That is all. If more goalies are ranked with comments that broad it looks like I saved myself a lot of trouble.

THANKS FOR THE QUICK RESPONSES GUYS!!!!

I don't know if I'm troubled or perplexed. I think I'm both and I just don't know the correct word for it...but GAH!!! MBLEH.

    Flarg!

I think that's the word you're looking for.

Or at least, that's the one I got...

MBLEH is a great choice. It's a combination of an indifferent apathetic "meh" with an upset puking "bleh." It starts with the mouth closed on the 'm' and 'b' then opens with a nigh-torrential 'leh' that can be sustained as long as one feels is appropriate. A nice balance of stunned confusion and reactionary disgust.

The all-caps is a nice touch, too.

Just for the record I believe hes quoting THN's pool guide not the yearbook. I was equally appalled with the guide, but have not looked at the yearbook yet. It may be completely different...

    Thanks for the clarification!!

Basically, I don't disagree with their predictions, but I can only laugh because I have no idea how they came up with that or what their line of thinking is. I'm sure if they had space to tell me, they would. But the only way I see Nabokov winning 47 games is if he plays...well...every...single...one.

    That's an unreal girlfriend.

Flannel shirt? That's a pretty bold statement. Then again, Semyon's a pretty bold guy...
