    Question Dealing away OEL + E.Staal for a pick, but still trying to win now? (REP)

    Hey guys,

    Roster & settings in sig.

    OEL has been useless for me. Staal has been pretty solid, but he's kinda redundant as my forward group is pretty beastly. I have a hard time getting him in my lineup. I'm looking to move out both him and D. Brown for either picks or in a package deal for a better player. I need to replenish my picks a little. I also need to activate Murray soon, and I'll be picking up a serviceable goalie to help me with my stats a little (maybe Miller).

    I am absolutely trying to win now, and currently in the #3 slot. Most of our money is paid out at the end of the Yahoo H2H regular season.

    Got offered:

    A 7th round pick (technically a 13 round pick, but 1-6 are used for keepers)
    For my OEL + E.Staal + 11th round pick (technically a 17th round pick)

    Should I take it? Or is the value not there? My league seems to really overvalue draft picks.

    Obviously I'm a big loser if OEL gets dealt to a contender. I think that's what this owner is banking on.

    My current pick situation: (no 7.. I traded it away), 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 14, 16, 16, 16, 17
    After this deal it would look like: (no 7), 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 13, 14, 14, 16, 16, 16

    I'm not sure how doing this trade helps you win now?
    League 1: 16 Teams. 8 Keepers. Weekly H2H
    F (Start 6): Barkov, J.Hughes, Zibanejad, E. Kane, Buchnevich, Kopitar, Coyle, Trocheck
    D (Start 4): Josi, Hamilton, Toews, Hanifin, Pionk, Clarke, Korchinski
    G (Start 1): Vasilevskiy, Daccord

    Point System
    G=2, A=1, D-man G/A=+1, PIM=0.5, +/-=0.5, Shot=0.1, PPG=1, PPA=1
    Goalie Points
    W=4, S= 0.14, GA=-1, OvertimeW=1, ShootOutW =1, ShutOut=2

    League 2: 12 Team Dynasty League - 30 man roster plus 7 farm.
    Keep 20 + 7 farm. Weekly H2H Roto. G, A, Shots, Hits, Blocks, PPP, Goalie W, SV%, GAA. Forward Positional Requirements.

    Yeah, sorry, I wasn't super clear about that.

    It allows me to clear roster space, while getting a return (albeit a negligible one), and lets me pick up a FA option to help in goal (probably one of Miller, Neuvirth, Saros, Lehtonen, Grubauer, Ward, or Reimer).

    I can also freely ride hot hands off the waiver wire: Dadonov, Buchnevich, Beauvillier, Boedker, Hertl, Kase, etc.

    I guess you'd have to figure out if any of the waiver options are going to be better for you than Staal. Murray coming back will help with that but maybe a 3rd option could be better than Jarry.

    I am also a OEL owner but I've gone with the hold option...his value is at an all-time low right now and I have to think there will be a rebound of some sort, or best case scenario he gets traded. I would want more value personally before I made this trade. All us OEL owners will be kicking ourselves if something big happens and we sold low.

    Yeah, you might be right. But at the same time, I feel like something might be better than nothing, too. OEL is an absolute boat anchor right now. If I could get a pick for these two guys, then scoop either Buchnevich or Dadonov, and roll some better #2 goalies as they're pegged for starts, my team is in better shape.

    Ack... curse you OEL.

    If you don't do this deal, what are the chances you'll drop OEL or Staal for nothing?

    The return seems very underwhelming....but if you are gonna drop them for nothing, I suppose a modest pick upgrade is the smart approach.

    I think I'd personally rather gamble on OEL picking it up or getting traded.

    how is 41pts in 48 games redundant? This trade is more like.. .'hey come compete with me, I'll even help you beat me' than it is 'I want to win'

    Everyone says OEL's value will skyrocket once traded....not necessarily. All of the good teams who will go for him already have a few top Dmen, he will just compliment them. He may not get as many minutes or PP minutes as he's getting now. So while the team may be better, his usage will probably be worse which could possibly mean it's a wash in terms of his production...........Just a theory.

    As for your trade, I wouldn't trade Staal just for a pick. If you want to get a pick, try for OEL but not Staal. I have been kicking around the idea of trading Staal too - ONLY because I also have Koivu and I'm not a fan of having two players same position same team, but you can't deny the season he's having. If your worst case scenario is you can hardly get him in the lineup, that's a great problem to have.....

    Like Lucafen said....he's better on your bench than on another team against you.

    If you can trade OEL for a pick, sure. But not with Staal

    That's a lose now, and not gain much of anything in the future deal. Decline with impunity.
