I wouldn't he has fallen a couple notches.
Ok guys so here it is, that time I question if I should keep Erik Karlsson at end of year over Johnny Hockey, Crosby, Stamkos.
I'm the first to say to anyone don't panic etc but all I keep hearing is how they removed a huge portion of his ankle and he's not the same player anymore. (not sure i believe that) I cant help but think that the sens as a whole have struggled contributing to his disappointing season. The loss of his stay home dman is probably huge but how much better is he then whats been put with him?? Of course its going to be important to see where he plays next season but is it safe to say that I might be wise to keep Crosby, Gaudreau and Stamkos ahead of him anyway? My only slamdunk is Kucherov.
(we have contracts that run out, you can only keep 4 players with contracts that have expired.)
I've already painfully made some room by moving Tavares (expired) for Laine and Radulov.
thanks for you opinions!

Yes, he's still a near must keep IMO. If he struggles again next year then you consider your options. Only way I consider dropping him in your shoes is if I get blown away by an offer that will either seal the win for me this year or greatly increase my odds next year AND is well above and beyond any return I could get for the other guys you mentioned.

I think it depends on the league. In your situation D is your deepest position at 5 which makes him a must keep in my opinion. The point differential from 1st d men to 5th dmen started is just too much to ignore.
It's time to look for a 2 for 1 upgrade or future picks involving Stamkos or Crosby. In a limited keeper you should be able to get a first rounder plus for one of them in the off season which is super valuable.
He's still shown he can be elite through stretches after his surgery. You can't expect 82 points every season but 70 from him going forward is still very realistic even in Ottawa. When he signs his new deal he could be unbelievably good. I'm hanging on here.

I own him and will still keep him for the first team in my sig, despite some tempting other options. He's further above other D than Stammer is above other C, in my opinion.

We cannot trade draft picks. Trading is tricky now cause I can't trade them for another expired contract player. Expired meaning 3 years max. In all likeliness the bottom 4 guys not expired that I want to keep will be better than what I can get for Stamkos AND Dubnyk for example.

That makes it a bit trickier. Have you felt out the McDavid owner and what it would take? Given your situation it may be worth overpaying.
I still think you have to keep Karlsson over one of you centers just because they are easier to replace and you only start 3 vs 5 d men.

He has been terrible this year but will rebound next year. A bad year from karlsson is like a good year from Gaudreau. Keep him for sure
Easy keep over Johnny Hockey. There is nobody better than Karlsson at that spot.
