    Default Chronicles of Rittich

So I had my eye on this guy the past few weeks and recently scooped him up as a prospect free agent in my league. Prospect Gs who have a path to starting somewhere are generally overvalued here so it looked like a smart speculative add.

I really dont know much about him and I rarely see the Flames play. But Dobber was pumping his tires in his last Ramblings so I knew I had better grab him before word gets out.

Any Flames homers have opinions on him? This is a good one for rat, hopefully he will scuttle in here and give us a nibble. I will put some rep out there for you as cheese.

It can't hurt, honestly, seeing your farm and starters.
No saying how much work he'll see behind Smith, but no complaints.
His 3rd season with us and, regardless of great #s, doesn't get a lot of starts.
He keeps proving it, so something has to give.
I'd describe him as a "quiet" goalie, no drama, no highlight reel saves.
Almost the polar opposite of Smith.
Reads plays well, knows his crease, knows his angles, absorbs pucks pretty well.
His future is definitely unknown, but his numbers speak to how solid he has been up until now.
I'm a Flames fan, yet it's still a lot of intrigue after 2.5 years.

Welcome to the boards. That's some solid analysis there, I appreciate the input.

The question now is: Has Rittich hijacked the Calgary crease? It appears so if you only look at the boxscores.

Right now, I don't see how they can't ride the hot hand.

I think it's his to lose at this point. That was a huge game for Calgary last night. Both teams battling for the Pacific and the ice was leaning for the oilers when it was 2-0. Big comeback win and rittich kept them in it. I don't know how they don't roll with him.

Some interesting comments from “Burkie” during the 1st intermission last night. He says Smith is loved by the other players and management, and his thought is that the team will give him opportunities to turn his game around.

The reality in sports usually is that as long as the guy is winning he will keep playing. Rittich stopped 3 breakaways last night when it was 2-0 Edm, two of them from Drai. Otherwise the result is much different. I am going to dress him as long as he is playing.

Smith is 36 years old and in the last year of his contract. Gillies is stinking it up in the AHL, if Rittich is ever going to get a shot at being the starter, it's now. Agreed that Smith will get his shots throughout the season, but if Rittich continues to look promising, he could very well be the answer.
