Default Trouba vs Rielly Long Term *REP*

See league below for scoring categories and weight.

In my format, are Trouba and Rielly pretty close long term or do you see one as being a tier or two above the other? Will Trouba ever get regular PP time?

    Thanks, rep as always!

Just by the eyeball test, I would still take Reilly just because of the heavy weighting on offense.

I am a Trouba owner in a points only and he's been a flop. Trouba is nice for your other cats, but I can't see him giving that much more value given how bad he's been offensively even with his PP1 time while Buff was out.

Reilly is just getting going and should be able to hold a 50 point tier for years to come. That's way harder to come by on D than the other cats. You can chase down a Gudas or something to balance him out if that helps, but I wouldn't let go of Reilly if I were you.

Long term, I could see them being pretty close in your league. But I suspect that Rielly is generally viewed as being a tier or two above now. And particularly in a daily starts format, I agree that you can cycle guys in and out as needed to make up the difference in physical categories, so would prefer Rielly who I think is the safer option.

Rielly should always be 10-15pts ahead of Trouba. Not heavy on goals, he should give 10 a year. Trouba is a great multi-cat guy. 150+ hits and blocks. That's an extra 30pts - minimum in your settings, or 15 assists. If Trouba can become a 40-45pt dman, then I'd probably prefer him over Rielly. As they sit currently, I want Rielly, 50+pts this year is in reach, whereas Trouba's in the 30 range and cant' catch Rielly in fantasy points with the extra H & B in your settings

I'd prefer Rielly as the others have said, as points are desired, and so are Leafs. So his trade value should be higher, unless Trouba hits an offensive gear we are pretty sure he doesn't have at this point.

I'd take Reilly for the foreseeable future. Trouba would have to be moved to another team at this rate and be the consistent PP1 guy to be able to have a shot at competing.

I'm not really convinced that Troubas upside is anywhere near Reillys.

Yet Trouba's team continues to win and that was without big Buf in the lineup

I think its a situation where Trouba is perhaps the better overall defenseman but that doesn't show up in the "stats" so the fantasy community goes with Rielly

Trouba is currently at 49% offensive zone start time, Reilly at 46%

the PP time is telling however
    Trouba 1:38
    Rielly 2:15
and percentage of teams PP time
    Trouba 28.6%
    Rielly 49.8%

Trouba also plays more short handed minutes than Rielly which in my mind confirms that he is a "better" DEFENSEman

trouba is also more physical with pims, hits and blocks

one can only wonder what would happen if they were to switch teams and circumstances
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

Both are great young players. Watch a couple of games for each team and really focus on each one of those guys when they are on the ice and you?ll see why the numbers are where they are. Rielly thinks the game so much better and his hands are just so good. He sees things Trouba doesn?t right now and has the skill to make it happen. You?ll see what I mean. Trouba reminds me a lot of Hedman his first season or two. People started to question his hockey IQ because the points weren?t there. Maybe it?s a big man thing.
