Default Raiders offering Gruden partial ownership to lure him back?

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/2...?sf177793901=1

The Oakland Raiders are preparing to pursue ESPN analyst Jon Gruden with an offer so strong it could even include an ownership stake in the teams, according to league sources.

Gruden will be tempted to accept it, according to sources, but would prefer not to make any decisions until the regular season finishes Sunday and the Raiders make a final determination on their current head coach, Jack Del Rio, who signed a contract extension last summer.

But Oakland long has appealed to Gruden, for a variety of reasons: He would return to an organization he didn't want to leave in 2001; he would inherit a young quarterback in Derek Carr whom he feels strongly about; and he would get to coach a team that is slated to move in 2020 to Las Vegas, where he would not have to pay state tax, as he does now in Florida, where he currently lives. Gruden's contract even could be backloaded to pay him more in the Nevada years of the deal and lessen his tax burden during the California years.

Raiders owner Mark Davis has offered Gruden an ownership stake in the past, according to sources, and if Davis were willing to do so again, the contract then would have to be approved by all 32 NFL owners.

Don’t offer ownership to a coach. No no no no. Wrong on so many levels.

Well, in all fairness, this is the Raiders where they do the unorthodox regularly.

Raiders are giving new head coach Jon Gruden a 10-year contract, the longest coaching deal in NFL history, sources tell ESPN. The deal is likely to be worth about $100 million.

10 years for 100 Millions.... am I missing something?

Did the Oakland Raiders create a bidding war against the Vegas Raiders?? Driving the price up for a guy that is coming out of the press booth???

This term just makes 0 sense to me.

I read a tweet that Gruden now has the most guaranteed money in the NFL!

This contract is absolutely madness, the amount, the term, everything. I would love to see the buyout conditions and if the team can get rid of him for less based on performance.

That was my first reaction; how much of this is guaranteed and what are the ramifications if he gets fired?

I can barely get my head around how you can commit to a coach for 10 years. Imagine trying to be a general manager knowing your coach has a 10 year, 100 million deal. I guess you do whatever the coach tells you to do? lol
