    Default Brassard to Columbus?

    As per Elliott's 11th thought......

    11. Idea that might make sense only to me: Columbus, looking for a centre, considering a reunion with Derick Brassard. Brassard and John Tortorella worked well together with the Rangers. You know who Tortorella?s assistant was there? Mike Sullivan. And the Penguins are looking for a centre, too.

An interesting suggestion from Friedman. Brassard could be a good fit in Columbus. The Jackets have the cap space to absorb his $5 million annual cap hit, especially if they send a salaried player to Ottawa. Such a move, however, depends upon whether the Jackets are on his no-trade list, as well as the Senators? asking price. Maybe the Jackets offer up Alexander Wennberg, who tallied 59 points in 2016-17 but is struggling this season and might benefit from a change of scenery.

Yeah Brassard would be an excellent 3rd line guy who could admirably fill in as the 2nd line guy when Malkin is out. But at $5mil through next season there is no way the Pens do that. And I don’t think the Sens would be willing to retain salary. I don’t know that Columbus makes much sense for a $5mil 3rd line guy either.

So any team taking him in a trade gets a $5 mil cap hit. That’s probably more important to potential trade partners than his actual salary...

Depends on the team. A team like Anaheim for example would love that. It’s not a big cap hit for a second line centre either

Depends on the team. In Pittsburgh, he'd be a third line centre. In Montreal, a first line centre. So second line centre is a good average.
