McDavid Offer
Team in sig, I have been offered Malkin, Backstrom and Price for McDavid.
Won last year, this would be a good push to win again, but how long until I regret it?
I?d be dropping a couple plugs to make the deal then have to trade a C and a G probably as well.

I'd like it a whole lot more if you could replace Malkin with a stud winger.
To answer your other question, if you don't win your league this year - you'll regret it is my guess.
I've traded McDavid in two $ keeper leagues, but have titles to show for it...

Running Crosby and Malkin as your centers in the playoffs would be too risky this season. They have a poor schedule and Malkin will likely miss time.
You could use the help in goal but this just isn't enough for me to consider moving mcd. He's in his own tier right now.

That's even worse. I know malkin doesn't get a lot of credit because of injuries but that's almost offensive. Vorachek is nowhere near malkin

I am going the other way, and I'd take that deal and run. Ideally I would take Voracek instead of Malkin, and ask for a small pick upgrade to come my way because of that.
My reasons:
1. League size & type. You have a 20 team league, and I'd call it essentially a dynasty league. You keep 80% of your roster - keeping 20 of 25. keeping 400 players is huge.
2. Goalie starting requirements. You start 2 goalies in a 20 team league. There are 40 starting goalie slots in your league, but only 31 teams in the NHL. This deal gives you Price/Dubnyk as starters with Markstrom, Smith & Grubauer as reserves. So you would have, right now 3.5 of 31 starting spots, and an elite backup who is poised to be a free agent? That's crazy good.
3. It increases production from skaters until Voracek & Backstrom are done. You league isn't points only, but I think Backstrom/Voracek outpoint McDavid/(insert slug here) for the next 4-5 years. Voracek is a winger, and pretty high end.
McDavid & Pouliot = 50 points right now ( I picked Pouliot because he's a non-keeper winger, but not your last listed)
Backstrom & Voracek = 64 points right now
4. You diversify your risk, spreading one elite player into 1 elite player, and 2 very good players. It reduces your injury risk, your schedule risk ( since league is head to head) and gives you more productive players in total.
5. It helps for a title push now and helps you contend inthe next 4-5 years. I don't care about any theoretical window past that when you have an elite team. You will just go get more great players.
I am sure this may be an unpopular opinion, but if you can keep essentially everybody, those bottom end roster spots start to look really good when filled with good players.

As an Oilers fan, I say take the deal. You won't get a better offer of players who will help you win your league over the next five years then you are probably getting now.

Congrats. Looking back I advised against the trade, your league is quite deep which definitely helps your end of the deal. I always say moving McDavid would have to blow my mind and all but guarantee me the $ win (barring crazy bad luck / injuries or whatnot).
I'd still be very hesitant to make this same deal today but a wins a win (quite honestly I wouldn't do it). Good job pulling the trigger.

Nice. In these settings I don't know if anyone loses this trade. McDavid acquirer adds the guy they want, and presumably they either believe they can rebuild their depth quickly, or are in the midst of a genuine rebuild.
Your adds will help you win for the next good while, and you will have opportunities to get other young promising players, although probably not of McDavid's calibre. But you've bought yourself time before you need to worry about that as you will be focussed mainly on winning now for 2 or 3 years.
I am very loath to recommend trading away McDavid (and probably would have recommended against it), but considering your league settings I see the logic behind it and think you got a good return.
