Stamkos for MacKinnon & Ehlers ?

2nd team in signature. Keep 10 with restrictions on keepers (max 2 yrs except Franchise player).

Stamkos is a 2nd yr keeper. I can?t keep him next year. The team I took over is very thin in talent. I have only listed notable players from my roster of which I would choose my 10 keepers.

I was offered MacKinnon and Ehlers for Stamkos.

I like getting MacKinnon and Ehlers has keeper potential. I just think I should be able to get a top end player for Stamkos even if I have to add a little something. Am I wrong ?

Other 2nd yr keepers: Benn, Malkin, Getzlaf, Scheifele, Monaghan, Couture, Johansen, Gaudreau, Kopitar, Bergeron, Toews, Pavelski, Patches, Kessler, O?Reilly.
Other Franchise players: Pastranak, Price, Holtby, Crosby, Burns, Laine, Tavares

Mac and Ehlers are 2nd yr keepers with that GM. He also has a Kucherov as a 2nd yr keeper. I had previously discussed Stamkos for Kucherov. He?s not ready to move Kuch but I?m willing to wait.

So , what say you. ?

Considering other teams know you can't keep Stamkos past this year due to league rules, you won't get true value for him in trade talks. That being said, this isn't a bad offer for Stamkos.

I wonder why he isn't willing to part with Kucherov if he knows he's not going to keep him. My guess; it's too early in the season to worry about trading a stud like Kucherov. He knows there will always be a partner who will want him. Maybe that's what you should do with Stamkos too.

Axeman33, Stamkos is my last blue chip piece to move. I think I will wait to see what I can get come our playoffs or after the season when others are in the same situation with their 2nd yr keepers.

Given how you can't keep Stammer, I think Ehlers and MacKinnon is a good deal for him. Sure you can wait, but the other GM may move those guys elsewhere and leave you accepting a lesser deal. Two in the hand is worth one in the bush.

Holding Stamkos for a better return later is a good strategy but keep his injury history in mind too.

I'd push for Kucherov, it's a good fair deal for both of you 1 for 1.

I do like Mackinnon and Ehlers for the next 2 years as well though, not a bad offer but I'd still probably hold out a bit and push for kuch.

I declined the offer, providing my reasons that Stamkos was my blue chip asset.
In his response he thought he could cash in on my fondness for Mackinnon.

He has now offered Kucherov for Stamkos straight up.
Do I suggest adding Giroux for Mackinnon ?

I obtained Giroux in trade this season. I can keep him the rest of the season plus two more

I'd prefer Mackinnon over Giroux going forward but it's close and definitely debatable.

I think you could try but don't lose the deal over it.

Ended up being my Stamkos, Giroux for Kucherov, Mackinnon. Very happy with the end result.

I kind of like the return. Too risky to wait. You get two solid young players with ton of upside.
