Have to agree with you on this one. Picked Burns over Tarasenko in a pts league, I kept thinking "A 70 pt defenceman or a 75 pt forward?". Watching him play he just doesn't look the same. Not as fast and explosive.
As an elite fantasy option, that is.
25 GP: 1G, 11A, 4PPP, -7
Going back to March of last year, since then he has
45 GP: 3G, 19A, 10PPP, -11
In that span of 45 games, he's only had 2 multi-point games.
So that is no longer a slump. That appears to be a serious regression. And his cap hit of $8 million, if you are in a cap league, makes him a very undesirable commodity. And he's 32 and the Sharks team doesn't appear to be getting an injection of young offensive forwards and with Thornton at 38 and Pavelski now seemingly in a steep decline, I'm afraid it is time to say bye to Burns as an elite fantasy player. I just wish I had seen it before the season started (there were signs of course but I chose to disregard them) and acted upon it.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

I'm in the same boat. Took him with the 4th overall in my league hoping that he will be able to provide points at an elite level. At least he stil shoots a lot, but seeing the likes of a lot of players I passed over in my 1 year league succeed really burns.

I disagree. Watching last few games and he is still dominant. The number of great plays he sets up that are not finished is ridiculous. Positive regression will come. He will likely still hit 60 plus points this season IMO. If that is not considered Elite for a defender, then I guess he is not Elite anymore.

Sure 60 as a dman is elite but he's not hitting that this season (or again in SJ). For him to hit 60, he needs to get 48 in his next 57 games. How is that likely considering his performance over hist last 50 games?
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

In my opinion, I still hold out faith Burns will pick it up again once the team gets moving. SJ as a whole has struggled, Adapting to no Marleau, and Pavelski is playing with a lingering Injury. If he gets over that injury and starts to get moving again the team should start to pick it up. If Pavelski's Injury doesn't go away it may drag on though.

Ok, I concede it is quite possible Burns only scores somewhere in the 50's this season, but with his shot, hit and block totals he will easily still be a top 5 D man in most leagues. Which is to say, since I would hazzard 50 some points is his floor, that your title, "Brent Burns appears done", might be a tad bit hyperbolic.

I have a possible deal on the table implicating my Faulk and Burns for Risto and OEL...
I would save a few millions on my cap.. decisions decisions..

50 point D-men are still elite. But his 70+ points the last two years made him legendary. Only he and Karlsson were in that conversation so naturally if he regresses to 50 this year and beyond, it stings.
Head to Head League: 1 point for G, 1 point for A. 2 for Goalie win, 3 for SO.
Start 6 guys every week. 3 O, 2 D and 1G. No substitutions once they are in (before the first game starts on Monday).
