    Default Should Raanta be UFA

League and team details are in my signature.

Raanta is just sitting there on the wire. I am battling with a guy for 1/2 at the top. Do I have room/need for Raanta?

With Price threatening to return soon, you probably don't NEED another G.

Having said that, you could make a serious argument to drop Halak for Raanta. Halak's not helping you with those categories.

I agree. At the draft I selected both to go along with Price. But I traded for Rask this weekend so now I have two workhorses in Price and Rask, so now I don't need Greiss's handcuff. But if there's no reason to start Raanta, then there's no point in picking him up.

    Agreed you don't NEED Raanta.

But I would stash him to use as an asset down the road. If your league is anything like mine, goalies are difficult to come by.

    But who to drop?

I would say that Raanta will be a more valuable, tradeable asset than Halak, Bjorkstran and Heed. I would drop any of those.

There might be reasons to start Raanta later this year. Any of these:

    1. Price gets hurt again.
    2. Rask or Greiss get hurt.
    3. You decide to move a goalie for an upgrade.

Or the other reason to grab him, and drop Halak:

    4. Somebody else's goalie gets hurt, and then you can deal from strength.

I'd grab him, because #4 is just about guaranteed, and one of the first 3 is quite plausible.

I would drop both Halak and Greiss, run with Raanta as your #3, and have an extra bench spot to do whatever you need.

The thing that sucks, is that the Isles are decent and win more than the Coyotes. But the goalie share does clog up a bench slot with a plug like Halak.

Greiss has started 5 of the last 7 games and 4 of them have been quality starts.

I think the goalie share is going away - Greiss is solidifying himself as the #1.
