I'm with daoust on Nash. He's a player that always seems to be over hyped and under delivering. I don't watch many of his games, but I keep my eyes and ears open, and I don't hear a whole lot of hockey experts (or anyone really) praising his contributions, intangibles or talking about how he's a game breaker. I have no doubt that he would likely improve a team going into the playoffs, but probably in more of a depth or specialist role as opposed to a top line contributor. For that reason I wouldn't want to part with a 1st to obtain him.

That being said, JP did point out the Hanzal deal that netted a 1st, so he certainly could obtain one, but it wouldn't be from me.

I'd rather spend less to pick up the depth specialists and save my 1sts for guys that can produce results when goal-scoring is most difficult. Results win championships, trying gets you blue ribbons.

    Thank you,

    not many

    answers my question

The result of this is that we can now have a conversation about why we disagree

I think that not hearing about a player doesn't necessarily mean he is underwhelming, just that perhaps other players are better "headliners" such as Zibanejad's goal scoring, McDonagh's injury or Henrik's on and off season so far

As a fan who has watched many of his games I can tell you he is often a difference maker and although the stats aren't overwhelming nor his contract affordable he is an effective hockey player for NY

I believe GMs know this too

You disagree on his "value" which I can respect

A great thing about a thread like this is we will see if NHL GMs agree with paying a first for him or not

For clarification I asked what his rental cost would be, not that it would be a first plus something else
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

It depends on what you think you’re getting. A 40+G type guy? Then that’s an issue as that’s not Nash anymore. But I think he can be a Marian hossa type that can help certain teams. His complete game is solid, he’s just not a sniper anymore

    yes very true

which is why I was asking for the number of games commenters have seen

I would peg him as more of a 2nd line kind of guy, perhaps a 3rd liner assuming NY picks up the remaining freight on his contract

Hossa is a pretty fair equivalent, James Neal comes to mind, Patrick Sharp although I think Nash offers more offensive upside than Sharp and better overall defensive play than Neal
