I'm thinking of trading an established D (Letang or Carlson) for Ekblad and a few upgrades. Ekblad came in hot his first couple of seasons; nice goal totals and huge shot volume. Seems to have regressed including his shots.....mind you he is only 21 and D take longer to develop than forwards. He will be THE guy in Florida for the foreseeable future; meanwhile I am also right in contention this year.

I hate giving up proven for potential but he has the makings of a star keeper for years. In a league where it's goal = 3, assist = 2 and plus/minus counts, what are people's thoughts on if Ekblad will ever become that stud /what will be his goal and point total avg per season? Should I move for him hoping he finally breaks out? I'd be moving a keeper for him while hoping he turns into a keeper for me. Keep 6 league in a 15 team legue where D are scarce...

    Thanks

He is a real hockey stud; he scores, so hits, he blocks, he defends. But I'm not sold on him being an elite, standout point producer. I see him more like an Alex Pietrangelo (who is having a great season so far putting up points) in that he will be a fabulous guy to have on the blueline for the Cats and will flirt with 50 points, but never a top 5 in points amongst dmen.

    Bottleneckers (12/16 in 2022)
    16 team, points only. G: 2-W, 4-SO.
    Top 9F, 4D & 1G . Keep 15, Max 23
F: J. Robertson, J. Hughes, Tavares, Lafreniere, Cozens, Newhook, Teravainen, Domi, R. Strome, Laine, Rossi, Raymond, Holtz, Perfetti
    D: Bouchard, McAvoy, Morrissey, Heiskanen
    G: Vasilevskiy

Hes a stud but will likely be better in real life than point only fantasy leagues. He has the potential but I think you're year or two away from moving Letang for him, especially if you're competing. I definitely prefer Carlson this year as well.

if you're expectations about Ekblad are 40 points with a ton of peripherals, you wont be disappointed. Its when you're expecting a consistent 50 out of him, which I'm sure a lot of people have hopes for, thats when disappointment sets in

I would not give an established D for him. Wait a bit longer and you may be able to get him for cheaper given how bad he was last year and how his scoring is slowing down this year. Right now, he looks like a 30 point dman (but all the D on FLA have looked pretty bad). I think his highest upside is 40 points. When he gets the puck, he doesn't have the mobility to get shots through like Burns or Jones and he doesnt have the quick and hard release of someone like Weber. He is very slow which will ultimately hold him back from being extremely productive.

I think you'll get much further pursuing dmen who have less name value but better fantasy value. Burns or Spurgeon are proven guys. Werenski or McAvoy are guys who are younger so may have a high price but that have shown better potential than ekblad from what I've seen.
