Saros' game is based on positioning and reads. If he's not getting regular game experience, it's not a surprise that he's struggled with spot starts, not to mention that they've often been on the 2nd half of a b2b. While his size is not ideal, it's not necessarily detrimental. Saros has dominated every level of hockey he's played in previously, and I believe he is a stud goaltender in the making.

I'm sure people writing Hellebuyck off after last year are eating their words. If you can, I'd be buying low on Saros.

The last 3 games, his SV%:

    .917
    .956
    .1000

...and this is with bouncing up and down from Milwaukee to get in work and mostly getting reps in practice behind Rinne. Last year was not a fluke. Nor was his AHL dominance. He knows how to play.

    He is the future.

I don't think anyone has really questioned his talent level. The bigger question is if he can continue posting strong numbers when he plays about 3 games per week for the entire season. He can definitely post strong numbers in single games here and there but because of his size and lack of games during these crucial development years, I doubt he can do that on a regular basis as the #1 goalie.

As I mentioned, he needs work and by sending him down to the AHL to get some games in intead of just warming the bench will go a long way to his future success. Lately, it seems to be helping for sure.

I actually think he needs NHL work. He is done with the AHL, even if it's just for reps. The shot quality, coaching and reads at the NHL level are far superior. I think once the calendar gets into March, we will see a lot more Saros as teams gear up for the playoffs and rest players.

I could see a Vasilevsky situation developing, similar to Vas and Bishop sharing the crease weekly, a few years back.

    Toast of the town?

He got some AHL work posting 2 wins and then comes back up to do this.... I could see a split until the playoffs. Preds have their eye on winning, pure and simple.

Glad I held onto him during their bye week. Granted, my other goalies are Talbot and the Carolina mess so I don't have a lot of options.

Becausehe played in the AHL during the bye week, and Rinne would be rusty coming off the break, that's all. They discussed it during the game.

    My question is this:

Given the team that I have in my sig, is Saros worth holding onto long term for my roster based on the complete lack of goaltending depth that I have
14 team head to head, 7 keepers
    G, A, PPP, HITS, PIM, +/-, GWG, W, L, SO, SV%

16 team head to head, 15 keepers
G, A, PPP, SOG, Hit, Block, W, GAA, SV, SV%
    2C, 2LW, 2RW, 1F, 4D, 1 Utility, 2G
F - McDavid, Tavares, Kucherov, Meier, Duchene, Foerster P. Kane, Pastrnak, R. Smith, Forsberg, Poitras, W. Johnston

I would hold him in a keeper if tenders were that sparse.

You have a nice team for a 14-team league! In early December I rostered him in both my 10 and 12 man leagues, so I would say hold onto him. I think he will keep getting starts and he will continue to shine. No, I don't think he will take over as starter this year though.
