Default Muzzin vs. Spurgeon - who ya got?

Those two are battling in this week's cage match: http://www.dobberhockey.com/hockey-h...ared-spurgeon/

What prompted the match was me realizing there were nearly as many d-men who posted 35-39 points last season as who posted more than 40. It emphasized how thin a line there is between a 40+ point rearguard and one who falls just short. And I figured these two are hard to pinpoint in terms of whether they fall in to the 40+ category (where Muzzin finished twice before cratering to 28 last season, and where Spurgeon's point pace would've landed him last season had he played all 82 games), or not.

Not only will this cage match give you insight on these two, but it should serve to help you decide in the future between defensemen who might have what it takes to be 40+ guys, or who merely will be one of the many to fall into the 35-39 point range.

Give it a read, and come back here to share your thoughts if you own either player or on the 40+ vs/ 35-39 point distinctions.

Muzzin all day in multi-cat league. Last year was definitely the exception.

That said, even at 40-45 points (very solid for Def) is it worth trying to sell high on Muzzin? If possible.

He'll be a tough sell, since most poolies will be scared off by last season. But if that means you're "stuck" with Muzzin, then it might be a blessing in disguise because by all accounts last year was a fluke.

Yeah Muzzin is the man you want of the two, though Spurgeon is on the rise and has a promising future. I would not trade Muzzin unless you received an excellent return, especially in a league that counts hits, blocks and shots. If other owners won't offer you what he is worth due to last years outlier, just keep Muzzin and enjoy his production.

Muzzin is gold in multicat leagues, currently sitting in top 20 in standard cats plus hits, blocks.

Muzzin is D #10 in my multi-cat format. Rock star.
