Cam Atkinson had a rough night. In the second period, he took a deflected puck to the helmet covering his forehead, a shot that appeared to rattle him momentarily. But that wasn't the injury that forced him out of the game.Atkinson suffered a lower-body injury at some point earlier in the game, and it was aggravated with an awkward hit early in the third period. He left the ice at 6:41 of the third and did not return.
John Tortorella was asked for an update after the game but told reporters in St. Louis that he hadn't yet talked to the team's trainers.
Rookie Pierre-Luc Dubois moved up into Atkinson's spot on a line with Boone Jenner and Brandon Dubinsky.
The Blue Jackets don't practice Sunday, so they'll have a morning skate Monday before hosting Boston that evening in Nationwide Arena. The club will likely have an update on Atkinson by then.
Atkinson has four goals, one assist, a plus-one rating and 34 shots on goal this season, averaging 19:20 in ice time per game.
The Blue Jackets are currently carrying an extra forward on the roster, winger Markus Hannikainen.
