Default Is OEL a sinking ship?

    (Team and stats in sig)

I've been keeping OEL for the past 4 seasons because he was a shot heavy / goal heavy D.

Last season he's been hard on my team averaging 1.84 shot per game, sinking to -25 and posting 39pts total.

Still kept him hoping for a resurgence but even though his shooting has been up a little his plus minus his killing me and I have little hope that he'll perform as well as he did in seasons 2015 and 2016.

I haven't watched a ARI game yet but I read that he's not playing well... I'm contemplating trading now as I can see his value to keep sinking.

Am I having a bad case of the knee jerk?

I’d say no... he’s still a fantastic offensive defensive asset and I like you have be holding strong for the past 4 years.

Having said that... I’m going to watch this thread closely because my faith is starting to waiver slightly also. But I think Keller starts to turn the coyote ship around and with that, fingers crossed OEL returns to fantasy significance.

Far from a sinking ship, patience! You won't regret it when he's putting up consecutive 60+ point / 15+ goal / 250+ sog seasons in a year or two.

In my scoring system he is doing pretty well. I think you might be overreacting to the bad +/- but you should have known he wasnt going to be helpful in that cat before you acquired him.

    To play contrarian...
I, too, think OEL is OEL and somewhere in there is a dynamite player.

But... he's on a bad team, as a veteran who has watched the team moved-out just about all veteran players AND the veteran coach.
Heck, the GM is about the same age as him.
One could even wonder if they bring in country-man Hjalmmer simply hoping to keep OEL happy enough to re-sign down the road.

He's got two years left on his contract... which means he still has all of next year to play like crazy for his next huge contract (likely to be $7m+ for 6-7 years).
But this year - I think it's possible he continues in the "funk".

A lockerroom, a team can get "old" for some veterans - especially when a team is completely turned over the way ARI has in the past few years.
In his big years he was putting up 3-4 sog/gp.
Last year, with his mom & the thumb injuries, <2sog/year.
So far, he's only at about 2.2sog/gp. (i.e. Closer in SOG production to last year... than previous years)
He's got just one even-strength point in 6gp.
    http://www.espn.com/nhl/player/stats...-ekman-larsson

I can't say I've seen a Yotes game yet this year... but those stats (the SOG per game, the ESP) are concerning for me.
That -10 thru 6gp ain't a good sign either... though I know the ARI goalies have been absolute dog-shit so far and his Corsi isn't that bad.

If we remove his one 55pt season from his stat log - do we still have such high expectations for him?
It IS a bad team, after all.
Put me down for 42pts in 80gp.

They have Hjalmarsson, Goligosky, and Stepan, too. And Dvorak showed a lot of promise last year and somehow managed to lead the team in +/- and be one of only 2 Coyotes with a + rating. The bottom 6 is very grim, though

This is basically the type of input I was expecting.

I know OEL is a stud and that given the right environment he would probably produce at a fantastic rate.
The problem is the team surrounding him and the seemingly generalized opinion that they will end up at the bottom of ranking.

So my take on this would be that the player is not the problem but from a fantasy perspective, he may not produce enough on this team to justify his plus minus rating.
Plus minus has always been on the minus side of things with OEL but his shot rate and point production were mitigating the negative effect it had on my H2H scoring.
Should a repeat of last year occur, he'll hurt my team more than he'll help.
As per FHG, he rated 42nd amongst defenders with our settings, barely making the cut as top 48 (4D slots x 12 teams)

So given the right price, I'd part ways with him and can still count on Pietrangelo and Burns to get a good production from my defense.

This is the correct summary. You were fortunate to get AP in your draft and he is your #2 D at this time and should be moved into your keeper group. OEL slots 3rd and should be a player you can move if you get the right deal. His name value should fetch something good back from him.
