    Default Brandon Montour

Just traded for Montour in the keeper league in sig. Would like to hear from those of you who have seen Ducks games. Seems like he's played solidly despite only putting up 2 points in 6, likely a byproduct of the Ducks being injury-ravaged greatly affecting 5v5 scoring. I did notice they've got Foster as the only PP1 D and Montour on the 2nd unit, which could impact his production if that continues. He is getting solid minutes overall though, 19+.

    What say you Dobber faithful?

I think it's hard to evaluate him until Vatanen & Hampus are back.
I've seen parts of two ANA games so far and he's been solid.
I'd like to see the full D-group healthy to evaluate how a coach might deploy them going forward.

I am a fan. Have been monitoring his rise since the USHL. He is a very good skater and has good hands. Is playing more and more with his head up and looking to make plays. He got luck on his last goal where the puck slid to him after a stick exploded and Price was out of position, but he smashed a slap shot right in the top of the net without hesitation. He was a pt/gp AHLer and is being given more opportunity now with Fowler out. When Vatanen comes back, it will be telling but I have a feeling they will use him more in a defensive role and start giving the offensive opportunity to Montour. He looks every bit the part so far.

Montour was practicing on PP1 today. Lindholm was on PP2.

Good article found courtesy of The_FaceO in the Fowler thread, discussing the huge opportunity Montour now has:

I'm going to take a swing with Montour and see how he handles PP1. Gotta think there's some logic behind the Ducks earlier move to send Theodore to Vegas so they could keep Montour. I like that he'll be PP1 and if he sticks should be getting more PP time than Trouba on PP2

When Fowler was in the lineup, he was getting top PP time over Montour, which frustrates me because Montour has loads of offensive potential and I feel it would be better to use Montour on the PP and let Fowler get some rest. Fowler is the main dman on the team, and plays the toughest minutes, but he doesn't have to play the PP (I feel).

I'm really hoping Montour shows his stuff while Fowler is out and that he gets to keep the role when Fowler returns. I'd like to see Fowler used less on the PP in favor of Montour, similar to Pietrangelo (Parayko), Doughty (Muzzin), Severson (Butcher), Provorov (Gostisbehere), Brodie (Hamilton). Unless you have a Karlsson or Hedman, I think it makes sense for teams to rest their top dman during the power play in favor of a player with more offensive skills.

I hear you re Montour, but on the rest of your argument, the PP is the least demanding role for a Dman so teams won't look to rest their top dmen there, they'll look to rest them by taking them off the PK as much as possible more often.

I only caught the first period but the Ducks had a few PP opportunities and Montour looked great as the shooting point man with Getz to his right.

also kinda hijacking this thread...with fowler out 4-6 weeks, and vatanen going to be back shortly, who's going to be PP1, Montour or Vatanen? (I think we can expect Fowler will take it back when he's back, but I could use a D in the short term)
    Weekly H2H 4games/week. 14 Teams,21 Player roster+ 3 protected prospects
20 week Regular season + 3 Rounds of Playoffs
    Keep 10

    G+A = 1pt, Dman G+A = 1.5pt, PPG =1pt, PPA = 0.5pt, SHG = 1pt, SHA = 0.5pt, ShootoutG = 0.25pt, GWG = 1pt, Hatty = 3pt, DMan Hatty = 5pt, +/- (For D only) = +/- 0.5pt, W = 2pt, L = -1pt, OTL = 1pt, ShootoutL = 0.5pt, SO = 1pt, S = 0.1pt, GA = -0.5pt, Goalie Goal = 5pt

    Each week play: 3 C, 3 LW, 3 RW, 3 D, 2 G
    C: Stamkos, Tavares, Getzlaf, Zibanejad
    LW: Schwartz, Kase, Debrusk, Dzingel
    RW: Ehlers, Lindholm, Zuccarrello, Tuch
    D: Letang, Burns, Krug, Edler
    G: Vasilevskiy, Fleury, Saros, Domingue
    Prospects: Sorokin, Kaprizov, Hart

My thoughts are: Fowler is well liked by the coach and management as he really won the D1 role last season over all the other options. That being said, his production really tailed off over the season, he started off really hot and then didn't do too much second half. For that reason, I'd say that the role on PP1 is still up for grabs if someone can prove that they are better/more consistent in that role. I didn't think that Fowler has performed so well that he is a lock to keep that role. He is a lock to stay on the top pairing but it's interesting to see what will happen now.

As for Vantanen. I don't think he takes PP1 role. He is not that much better than Lindholm and he was an afterthought for the role last season. The fact that Montour has taken the role in Lindholm's absence makes me think it's his to lose until at least Fowler's return. Adding Montour makes for a great speculative add IMO.

As for Muzzin or Trouba... These are both very good options especially in pools with peripheral stats. Although both have kind of lost out in the short term, I'm Bull long term on Trouba; while Muzzin, I'm hoping just keeps having a hot year. Trouba has not been seeing much PP time last I checked, however, my bet is that this will change. Muzzin has lost Jeff Carter, taking the teeth out of LA's PP2 which Muzzin was playing on... so you would have to hope that LA keeps up their goal scoring ways until Carter's return in 2018.
