Very sad news indeed.
It may be obvious, but worth stating that the Hip's influence and following wasn't limited to within Canadian borders. Growing up in the Buffalo area, many Hip tunes trigger amazing memories for me of adolescence and young adulthood.
An amazing talent. And by all accounts, an amazing person.
RIP, Gord. Thanks for the soundtrack!

Wear your Fifty Mission Caps in tribute today. I loved going to Hip concerts at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC - seeing them in a smallish venue surrounded by fellow Canadians of our generation. Awesome.
A true Canadian music legend, and great person. RIP Gord.

Many say they knew it was coming, and we all did... but I honestly thought he was still a good year away. He just put out a solo album, and was making public appearances just three or four months ago. I was still quite shocked this morning

My father passed away earlier this year from a similar cancerous brain tumor. If there's one thing I do know is that we never know when it's going to happen. His happened pretty quickly too.
