My best guess is he still gets sent back to the AHL, but if Severson doesn't generate a little action soon it is possible that Butcher sticks around. If Butcher continues to get lucky and Severson continues to get unlucky then those who bought the Butcher lottery ticket this season might get a 35-40 point D man on the cheap.
Severson has never really been a great PP QB, and besides him and Butcher, they don't really have any other PP options on their blueline. For that reason and the success Butcher had in his first game, I think he stays up the entire season. Remember that he was also a highly coveted free agent, so there may have been some promises made when he signed with the Devils - for example that they won't send him down to the AHL. He wasn't very good during the preseason but they still decided to keep him up.

Butcher definitely needs to work on his all-around game but it looks like the Devils want to play a more exciting, offensive style this season, so that's another good sign for Butcher. The Devils are trying to get fans excited about the future which includes players like Hischier, Zacha and Bratt, and I think they want to include Butcher in that group as well.

I'd wait a few games. Butcher wont get 3 assists every game. Slavin is going to get a ridiculous amount of minutes in Carolina.

Vs Toronto yesterday, a couple secondary assists, and more PP time than severson. Time for me to drop Dumba for Butcher?

Edit: or cut ties with Lehner? I'm rotating 3 goalies to Max out my 164 starts, so a third goalie isn't critical..

Decided to drop Lehner, grab Bucher. Giving Dumba more leash.

It's those decisions that you make at 5am that really matter. Mostly I'm just sending a message to the rest of my team that they need to get their sh*t together

Nice start for the kid, but he offers little value in multi-cat leagues.....he's the D equivalent of Joe Thornton.

Rotoworld is apparently a MASSIVE fan..

    "Sun, Oct 15
Will Butcher has impressed his teammates with his passing skills and play this season.
Advice: The defenseman has played only five NHL games and already has eight assists including setting up Drew Stafford on Saturday. "He?s a special player," Stafford said. "He?s fun to play with. Pretty much, you just have to get open. If he keeps this up, he?s going to have a heck of a career." We thought he could get 30 points at the beginning of the season but it appears that he is capable of 60 points which is gold for a defenseman in fantasy leagues. Grab him immediately if he is still available in your pool.

    i

Still want the under? 15pts in 19 games. I think his stock is continuing to rise and the window to get him at a resonable price is closing quickly.

He got dropped in a 1 year pts league I'm in. Put in a claim and it was successful. Justin Schultz was also dropped but someone else got him. Not sure why he was dropped? Just hope he keeps on producing. So far he looks like the real deal, we'll see if he develops consistency throughout the season.
