I watched a bunch and he was definitely on the wing from what I saw. Didn;t notice that specifically though....
ESPN's box score doesn't have him for a single face-off.
I didn't see the game, is that true?

Will Yahoo be able to resist the temptation?

^Right?!.... That's why I'm asking!!!
Usually when he and Draisaitl are on the same line, Draisaitl takes the faceoffs and then McDavid moves to the center position after the puck has been dropped. I only got to watch half of the 1st period and that is what I was seeing in the short amount of time I watched.

I was listening to local radio this morning and I believe Ryan Rishaug said McDavid did not take a single faceoff.
He played the whole game with Draisaitl so it is possible. I would have thought he got one at some point but the boxscore is probably correct.

Wow.
He took at least one faceoff in every game last year.

[It is noticeable that he dropped to 10 faceoffs or less, per game, sometime around the all-star break.]
Though, perhaps with the new faceoff rules, Draisaitl may have been super careful to just get set-up and never get thrown out.
But still... I'm always amazed when players can do the "switch" post-faceoff.
That's tough in defensive zone because the center is supposed to mark the opposing-center off the draw... and the two wingers are supposed to be closer to defending the D-men.
When you start to switch, you can get in trouble if the other team has won the draw.
I might have to try to watch parts of that game to see how 97/29 do that smoothly.
For me, at least in the defensive zone - I consider the "center" to be the guy taking the draw.
Generally, the center marks up the 3rd forward coming into their defensive zone - so it would also be interesting to see who was "first man back" when they were out there together.

I watched the whole game. McDavid did not take any faceoffs. Both players ended up being the low forward at various times of the game as any good linemates will do. The McDavid line was only on the ice for 5 defensive zone faceoffs so it wasn't much of an issue.
I didn't think they would. (I've had discussions with past Dobber forum members that say this is what happens - immediate switching... and I've told them "No, no it doesn't... or at least it shouldn't").
Any juniors coach would chew their guys out for not staying with their man off a defensive zone draw.
Both guys are smart enough to share the role of low-man.
It's just really fun to watch this stuff (well... it is for me).
This is stuff I wish I could pound through to my men's league hockey teammates, but our damn wingers think that if they line up at wing they don't have to bust ass and TRY to help with first man back duties.
Ah - beer league defenseman rant over.
[With regard to fantasy hockey, there's major impact here on McDavid. It really hurts a fantasy team in FOW leagues to have to slot a guy at center and get ZERO FOW. I would probably take Crosby over McDavid if I knew that in advance.]
Too lazy to look it up but didn't Gretzky used to do stuff like that (no not saying he's Gretzky, just popped into my head) where he would rotate in the defensive zone and it would allow him to blow the zone for fast breaks?
