Keepers not selected

Ok. So we had one team not select their keepers and one team only select 4 out of 5. Have any of you guys run into this and how have you handled it. I was just going to use the player rater and select their team for them.

That's a crappy way to start a season. Have you been in touch with the manager who didn't select any keepers? If not and you can't get a hold of him, I would select keepers for him using your best judgment or Dobber rankings and then quickly find a replacement manager before the draft. As for the guy who selected 4 of 5, I think you should force him to select a 5th keeper because this might be his sneaky way of getting an extra draft pick and targeting a young guy who wasn't rostered last year like Hischier, Patrick, Keller, McAvoy etc.

Are your keepers perhaps held in the round they were selected? If not, then I'm perplexed as to why someone wouldn't keep the most they possibly could.

In our league, you can keep less than our max (9 players), and we hold a pre-draft where anyone who kept less than 9 guys can select from the pool of unkept players and FAs to get back up to 9 players. This helps promote parity. But we have a rule in place that pre draft selections cannot include rookies (i.e. You'd basically be circumventing the draft order by keeping less than 9 players and picking from he best incoming NHLers).

Have you consider replacing either GM? I'm sure a new person could select their keep 5 very quickly and very easily. I'm assuming you've exhausted all efforts in reaching out to both neglectful GMs

Thanks for the thoughts. I told everyone that I was going to use the ESPN Player Rater. For the guy who only picked 4 he would get the highest rated player left from his team last year no matter what position. Ended up being a second goalie. I was going to do the same for the guy who didn't pick, but now he may not want to play. As soon as I find someone to take his spot, I will have him pick the keepers without seeing who everyone else picked.

You got to have a deadline for teams to commit if they are coming back, don't want guys who aren't going to be active.

This guy had been pretty inactive over the years, but never seemed like he didn't want to play. We pay for moves. I always thought he was just cheap. LOL.

In our league you can keep up to a certain amount. More than welcome to not keep anyone... But it's a braindead move ha

The penalty in our league for not selecting keepers is that you lose the players that had the lowest scoring in the previous year.

Well, looks like we found someone to take over the team. He will pick 5 from the roster he is taking over. I found that the guys who don't want to pick some or all their keepers, know that there are better players being left behind by other teams. I have 3-4 guys i had to let go that would be keepers on other teams. My thinking is if you went the whole year with this roster then you can pick your keepers from it. Make offers, give up draft picks to get a better base. Thanks everyone.

In our league if you do not "keep" all three players. You get to select players from the pool until everyone has their three keepers.

In our league if you don't keep 6 after draft is done you pick up free agents.
