I think I will let people take Halak and then just scoop up Greiss as my 4th goalie. Halak won't last.
I have noticed that Halak has been drafted earlier than Greiss in most drafts this season. I thought going into the season that Greiss was the starter but now I am not so sure. Anybody in Dobber land have any inside info on this or a good hunch who will get the brunt of the starts for the Isles this season?

My money is on Halak, but I'm trying to stay away from either goalie.

It's a good topic, because NYI has Greiss signed for 3-years... and Halak is UFA next summer.
I suppose I hadn't thought enough about that myself, because NYI is really only invested in Greiss - so it makes more sense to lean on him.
It seems... Greiss is the answer.
Great note for one-year (& keeper) fantasy leagues.
Halak is playing for his very future, so that's a factor. Even still, I think it's a longshot that either one starts more than 50 games, barring an injury or trade.

They didn't give Greiss that contract to simply hand the crease back to Halak. It's Greiss until he gets outplayed.

Great thoughts gents. Thanks. I have an offer on the table of Barrie for Lehner and if I did move my Lehner I could grab Halak for free off the wire (nobody grabbed him in this league). If I knew Halak would even start 50 games I think it might be worth it but I can see that it looks like the NYI goalie situation is still a crap shoot. He would also throw in Varlamov with Barrie for Lehner but not sure I want to take on a Colorado goalie with consistency issues...
What are your goalie stats? Depending on the format Varlamov could be better just based on how many more starts he will have over the two NYI guys. He is easily in a tier above the other two being the starter.
You can't make that trade unless you have other goalie depth because Halak will not be a replacement.

i think you go after both or dont get neither, nobody can predict who wins this but i would say its 6/4 chance for Greiss due to contract status
Hey Skinnypete. Not looking for a replacement. Looking for a 3rd goalie. We play 2 a night. I have Crawford and Bishop and Lehner. Buffalo only has 22 conflicts with Chicago and Dallas. Therefore Lehner will see a fair number of starts. Varly only has 21 conflicts I think... No difference there. But can Varly, 'A' hold the number 1 gig and 'B' put up half decent numbers. W=3, Saves =.1, Goals against= -.5, SO=2. If I received Barrie I would drop Petry or Beaulieu.
I am more confident about Varlamov having the number 1 gig than either NYI goaltender getting close to that so if he throws it in then sure.
But if you're looking at Barrie + Varlamov for Lehner + Petry/Beaulieu I would keep Lehner.

I think it's going to be goalie share time. Greiss will take over but they need to SHOWCASE Halak and try to sell him rather then lose him for nothing.
We all know Snow isn't a fan of Halak... so...
Just my 2cents.

Who ever wins games will play.
I think both will get plenty of games this year and should wash out pretty close unless one of them goes off and steals it (which is certainly possible).

The only guarantee here is that Halak and Greiss will be a tandem and whoever plays better will play more at any given stretch in the season. Anyone who think they know how this will shake out is flat-out guessing. Neither one has shown the ability to play more than 50-55 games in a season.
FWIW, I follow the Isles pretty closely.
Although Greiss has the contract I think this organization is so desperate to win that they will go with Halak if they have to. They don't have a clear backup alternative in the AHL as far as I can tell, so Halak will be in the NHL ready and willing to take over that crease if Greiss falters. Until Halak falters and gives it back again, of course.
It's Greiss' to lose, but he will probably lose the job at various points this year.
