Lehner VS Raanta

Hey all,

For league in Sig, I am about $4mil over the cap post draft. I am going to try and trade one of Raanta or Lehner as I don't need 4 goalies. Lehner's cap hit is $4 mil compared to Raanta at $1 mil. Do youguys see a big difference between the two? If I go with Raanta the rest of myteam will stay intact, but if I elect to keep Lehner I will need to moveanother piece to drop salary. My main questions is, Is it worth sacrificing another piece to hang onto Lehner, or should I roll with Raanta as my thirdgoalie on a very reasonable cap hit.

Edit: I am projecting Pasta at $7Mil in my calculations.

Easily Raanta in that scenario. Im not even saying hes better (although I will be drafting Raanta higher) but there close enough that theres no reason to take on the cap implications of Lehners contract.

The other "under the surface" factor. Is that if Lehner "blows it up"- you have to expect at least a marginal raise on his 4mil. If Raanta "blows it up" I could see a lot more conservative contract based on his smaller body of work as a starter.

I think Lehner will put up better numbers (W's, SV's, SV %) and thus more points in your league than Raanta.

So take that for what it is worth. The question then becomes do you think that those extra points (modestly more points IMO but not likely a significant amount) merit dropping a player off your roster to keep Lehner?

I have to leave that decision up to you.

i would take Raanta here but only due to salary, if Lehner can do what he did last year play wise he will get his sv% to around .925 and win 30+ games, i believe Buff will improve as a team and Lehner was actually good last year.

I like Raanta for a couple reasons. First is obviously salary. Second is you already have a good cast of goalies, so you can afford to take a chance on him with your last spot. Lehner is maybe the safer pick but it is not by a huge margin, so go with the cheap upside gamble.

Edit: however I should add another point...I ran Lehner vs Raanta in the Same Night Tool and you will actually get a potential 7 extra starts out of Lehner/BUF because AZ plays on the same night as Dallas and Tampa more often.

Neither are long-term keepers. Keep Raanta due to salary (even though Lehner will have better numbers). In a 12 team, keep 2G situation, you should be able to trade Lehner for a draft pick or some other asset.
