I don't know if you're familiar with this or not. I rarely watch the CFL anymore. But this story struck a chord with me as I could see this happening to anyone. Art Briles got caught up in a scandal he had no control over. He could have done some things differently but he didn't hurt anyone himself. He swears he had no direct knowledge of what was happening... he broke down crying over that situation, wishing he had been the first to know rather than the last (even telling his assistant that if anything happened the victim needs to go to the police). Sounds to me like a reasonable man who is remorseful and doesn't deserve to be kicked out of society. And yet, that's exactly what is happening. The way he's being treated in the media, you would swear he was one of the assailants if you didn't already know better. It's unbelievable.

I don't think a person should be treated like a criminal unless he/she actually IS a criminal.

Seriously, this person isn't allowed to earn a living anymore ?

    Sickening.

I saw the story this morning.

I am not sure that the CFL actually stepped in and said "no" so to speak. I think they talked to Hamilton and recommended they didn't hire him for PR reasons. Obviously the TiCats agreed none the less.

Either way, I do agree with you that it wasn't cool.

Yea, you're really misrepresenting the story with Briles. That man is a despicable human being and goes on trial soon. The man is a criminal.

The CFL made the right move ultimately, it's just disappointing and embarrassing they had to wait for public backlash to make it.

Why go to trial if he is already a criminal?

Except that he's not a criminal at all. Talk about misrepresenting.
Where is the link that says he "goes on trial soon" ?

My mistake. "ongoing lawsuit" I assumed he was involved.

But when independent investigators find he was complicit incovering up scandal and rape, and the guy trying to save his own skin says he wasn't, I'm probably gonna go with the guys following the overwhelming evidence saying he was complicit.

    This man is indefensible.

Details have finally emerged from the series of sexual assaults involving the Baylor football team, and it predictably isn’t pretty.

In a series of interviews with the Wall Street Journal, Baylor regents tell the paper that the scandal involved 17 women who reported sexual or domestic assaults involving 19 players, including four gang rapes, since 2011.

Coach Art Briles was fired in May in the wake of the allegations, but very few details were revealed at the time. Baylor regents, who oversee the university, are now going public with the findings made by Philadelphia law firm Pepper Hamilton LLP. One regent told the paper the series of sexual assaults were “horrifying and painful.”

The revelations included at least one case in which Briles was aware of an alleged incident and not only didn’t tell the police but didn’t alert the school’s judicial affairs staff or the Title IX office in charge of coordinating the school’s response to sexual violence.

“There was a cultural issue there that was putting winning football games above everything else, including our values,” said J. Cary Gray, a lawyer and member of the Baylor board of regents. “We did not have a caring community when it came to these women who reported that they were assaulted. And that is not OK.”

I would take the article with a grain of salt (THE SMALLEST) because it is an opinion piece it sounds like. Does outline what happened at Baylor pretty well tho, that's why I posted it.

There's a book out called "Violated" about all this too. It also talks about a DE that was about to be suspended for a yr for plagiarism and Briles stepped in to stop it from happening, then the DE constantly brought rules after that but no punishment happened. Then a yr later he was sentenced to 20yrs in jail for Rape.

"If anything, blaming the coach and the university feels like a misdirection play: The focus should be on punishing the criminals."

"All the problems at Baylor are being laid at the feet of the institution, its leaders and the football program, and, yes, they bear some responsibility. But the ultimate blame belongs squarely on the shoulders of the athletes who committed these horrible crimes."
