    Default Terrorist attack in Barcelona

    A van driving into a tourist spot with a lot of pedestrians.

    Is this the new thing now?

    WTF is the world coming to?

    bottom line is we live in a world with a lot of messed up people. why can't everyone just get along, live in peace and go about your life without harming people. stuff like this is just sickening to hear about.

    Did we have confirmation of intent? I have heard some mixed messages thus far.

    32 injured

    of those 32 injuries 10 are serious.

    From the interior official

    When I posted I was currently watching CNBC they have said Police have finally declared it a terrorist attack....haven't heard/read/listened to it anywhere else.

    There are just as many messed up people as there used to be, but I think social media (which I feel is a big time net negative) is emboldening them because 20 years ago they figured they were alone in how they felt, whereas now they can find plenty of other nutjobs that sympathize with them. So voila, they feel validated and instead of going on with their normal lives like they would've in the past, now they act.

    If I could snap my fingers and live 50 years ago instead of now, I would in a heartbeat. And that's despite knowing I'd have to give up technological and medical advances. To me it still would be a better life overall.

    Not confirmed but looks pretty certain since they had a getaway car waiting.

    Finnish newspapers are saying 13 dead and 32 injured.

    Hadn't heard that. Definitely tough to think it's anything else at that point.

    The guy fled the scene and he's still at large.

    It may very well be the new thing when it comes to terror attacks. It's easy to get and people don't question you getting into a car or truck. Walking around with a big bomb or large rifles tends to be suspicious. Frankly, I am surprised that terror attacks using cars or trucks hasn't been more common in the past up until now.

    And yes, this is the new thing now. In all big events (at least in Europe), they're blocking streets so that no cars can get close enough to do something like that. But of course how do you stop something like this from happening if people are just living their life and not doing anything special. Well, at least until they start adding those automated stopping systems to all cars and trucks.

    I noticed that on Canada Day here in Victoria... the streets around the harbour were closed to traffic and rather than just fences there were police vehicles parked across the streets. Subtle, but I'm quite certain not a happening of chance.

    Theres apparently a holdup in a restaurant too. And there are hostages in there.

    Not confirmed by CNBC.

    Update:

    They have made an arrest in Barcelona who cops believe was involved in the attack.

    Update:

    13 deaths more than 50 injured

    Sounds like David Amber from HNIC was staying in the area where it happened;
    @DavidAmber 6h6 hours ago
    Something horrible has happened outside my hotel in Barcelona. Unclear at this point but the area has been evacuated...

    Glad he's okay. Awful story.

    Regarding the truck attacks, ISIS has used this tactic at least 7 times in western Europe in 2017 alone. Its becoming the terrorists go to weapon since using bombs actually requires some skill and training. Its been a pretty common tactic for terrorists in the west since 2014 tho, with Canada being 1 of the first targets; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_S...ramming_attack

    My friend went to Ottawa for Canada Day and I remember telling him before he left, "Hey watch out for any rogue trucks during the festivities". I think I was just paranoid after the London Bridge/Manchester attacks, but maybe not.
    Obviously its not just an ISIS thing, the crazy white guy in London rammed his car into a crowd outside a mosque and killed 1, and this weekend in N.Carolina.
    ...but its mostly an ISIS thing.
