    Default Keeper League Rankings (July)

In the Last keeper league D-man rankings I saw Josi was 6th and OEL was 7th virtually tied at a 61 rating. I'm kind've wondering why it's so close between the two. It's for points only and they're basically the same age (josi-27,OEL-26). I like them both but when you compare their stats it would seem they should not have the same rating. I'm going to use the last 4 seasons as an example since those were Josi's only 4 full seasons.

    Josi
    13/14- 72gp-40p
    14/15- 81gp-55p
    15/16- 81gp-61p
    16/17- 72gp-49p

    OEL
    13/14- 80gp-40p
    14/15- 82gp-43p
    15/16- 75gp-55p
    16/17- 79gp-39p

Clearly Josi out performed OEL in every season so why the same rating?

If I had to offer an explanation, I would say that OEL had (and still has) strong expectations from fantasy owners in terms of point output. Most rambling and post made on OEL this season outlined how much of a letdown he was this year. So I guess the rankings still reflect where poolers see OEL vs Josi, regardless of if he actually put up those points throughout the year.

    My own opinion

I think the factors working against Josi are that last season's 40 points may become the norm with the same D core returning, whereas OEL doesn't have the competition of DeAngelo or Chychrun, but he has a better forward core than he has had alongside him in a long time. So there's a little more upside to hope for from OEL based on where they go from last season.

I think you read the stats wrong, Josi had 49p in 72gp this year. While I agree he has more capable dmen to compete with him for prime minutes I still think josi has the most trust from the coaching staff and will continue getting prime time over subban, ellis, ekholm. Basically OEL has to meet his personal upside just to get to where josi has already proven capable imo.

The rankings are based on "points only" format so none of that matters

You're right, I did read that wrong. Either way still decently valid. Josi can be a more all around guy for NSH, but OEL will be the offensive guy for a higher tempo ARZ squad.

Besides PIMs the other cats contribute to a higher points total potential. A lot of D get between 30-35EVS Pts, it's the PPP that explode players up.

Goals, obviously are harder to get than A for D (and mostly everyone), high shot rate=more opportunities for goals, or assists off it really.

D-men pts is opportunity just as much as skill and team make up. Stralman goes from NYR to TBL and Hedman gets hurt, then all of a sudden Stralman gets points.

I think OEL came into the league labeled as the next Karlsson and has not lived up to it. I believe hopes are high he rebounds this year with a little more talent on the team. I would much rather have Josi over OEL

To me this just sounds like even tho OEL has averaged 13 more shots,4 more goals,4.5 more ppp per season...he still is way behind Josi production wise even with more games played. Just tells me josi is more efficient and relies less on ppp or shots to be productive. Sure OEL has a young influx of talented forwards gathering around him so it could potentially get him to josi's level...at the end of the day potential is just that...Potential. I could buy a lotto ticket tonight and potentially win the jackpot... but regardless of how many people will buy it chances are that I will not reach that goal. Where as stats that have been proven better like josi's has over oel are hard to argue against.

The original question was why are they close, not who is better.
