Get Toffoli for a dman?
GM in my keeper league (points only) is looking at getting a young dman for Tyler Toffoli. I have Ekblad, Barrie and MacAvoy. Are any of them worth swapping for TT??
I'll remind you all that we count our top 4 dmen, so they do have some value as long as they can score points.

Admittedly, I expected these responses given Toffoli's less than stellar season last year, and feel the same way for the most part. However, I also believe that Toffoli's injury last year had a lot to do with his crappy play, and the advanced stats do show that he was incredibly unlucky.
I've repped those of you who I can (sorry FinnishFlash, but you already have enough of reps for now!), but would love to hear more from the rest of Dobber's community.

Interesting discussion and one I've been looking for. More on toff everyone! I am in a keeper self created salary cap based of of previous years fantrax scoring. We just finished bidding on ufas/rfas in our league format and I got toff for 7mil for the next 3 years. That's around league average where Crosby is probably highest at 12 mil.
So I thought most has soured on tof and this thread goes to prove it. That being said If you think he can crack your top 9 forwards I'd move Macavoy for him. I think he can be better than simmonds in points only so yeah Mac while he can be a dark horse this year don't expect more than 30-35

I think Toffoli is prime for a big rebound but based on your roster, I wouldn't trade him for any of your dmen. Like others have mentioned, Toffoli would be at the end of your starting 9 while all of the dmen you listed are solid top 4 guys for you. I think McAvoy is a little overated in points-only. I would look to sell high if you could flip him for comparable forward.

I'd look for an excuse to trade Ekblad, since I think his name value and "real life" hockey value far exceed what he'll produce for fantasy in the near future; however, Toffoli isn't enough for him nor either of the other two guys you mentioned.

Absolutely. In a points only....
So Toffoli and Letang for Ekblad/Barrie/McAvoy and a top 30 pick.
Letang will be your best dman when healthy and Toffoli is prime for a bounceback. If you could do Ekblad, that would be a great deal for you.

So I made the offer that included Letang. He got back to me and said that he had just literally traded Letang to another GM in our league. But, he was willing to swap Toffoli for the top 30 pick and a pick upgrade in 2018. I jumped on it, and quickly accepted.
So, in summary, I get to keep all of my young dmen, give up a top 30 pick and a 3rd rounder next year, and I get Toffoli. I think I did OK.
