Bummer - i was hoping he'd sign for less than $5M.

I think the term is 2 years too long for the AAV. But without Stepan, the Rangers didn't have much leverage I imagine.

His previous contract was an AAV of $5M I believe (please correct me if I am wrong), but I like the deal. Guy is a legit top 6 centre.

Also he is better than Brassard

He got a signing bonus the yr the NHL could go on strike (2020). Good on his agent getting that for him.

His last contract had an AAV of 2.625. His closest comparables are Palat, Tatar, Schwartz, Smith, and Schenn. So. It seems fine.

5x$5m seems about market-value for him.
Centers are tough to find... I consider Ziba as a $4m scorer... but the extra $1m for center duties is fine.
(It's better than paying a Tatar $5m, IMO!)

Pretty much market value or even slightly less. Good signing IMO.

Despite his playoff showing the fantasy numbers won't be there in the Vingnealt season, but not an unreasonable "real life" deal

Pengwin has pretty much summed up my thoughts on this as well.

I like Zibby quite a bit.

I really wish Zibs would get back to his hitting ways.

Curious why he had such a precipitous decrease in that category.

Seems fair for both sides. Still think Zibanejad can hit another level with his production. With Stepan leaving town it opens the door a bit.
