Nice addition to help cover for the loss of Methot and mentor some of the younger guys.

He was brutal for the Hawks after the trade last year.

For this price, he'd still be a bargain for the Hawks.

I'm curious to know what those 5 performance bonuses are...

Even at this price, I'm not sure this guy is the right answer for Ottawa...

    Two steps backwards this off-season...

I heard it on TSN690, these are the ones I remember.

1 - Top 5 in minutes played for D men on the Sens
2 - Top 3 in minutes played for D men on the Sens
    3 - 41 Games played
    4 - 65 games plated + playoffs

Downgrade from Methot but still a good addition.

This is just a depth move and insurance if other guys like claesson and Chabot aren't ready for big minutes. And maybe a trade is coming as they have 8 D right now. Either way oduya can easily sit in the press box a lo of games like wingels and other players did last year.

I disagree that they took a step back. This team is better and has better depth than the team that played from October - end of February. Losing methot will be an adjustment , but not a season breaker. Oduya compared to him stats wise last year, though I don't expect oduya to play top pairing

Pour man's Marc Methot... hopefully Karlsson doesn't care who his partner is!

A good bounce-back candidate on D. He helps fill the leadership void on D, and in conjunction with some combination of Claesson/Harpur/Chabot, can replace the Methot defensive minutes for pennies on the dollar.

    Evans344, you're right, $1M base plus $250K for:
    Top 3 D ATOI
    Top 5 D ATOI
    Play 41 games
    Play 65 games
    Qualify for playoffs

He won't take top-3 D minutes, but the other 4 categories are at least possible.

Best case: Surprises everyone and assumes Methot's role as Karlsson's partner for less than half of what Methot was making.
Worst case: Complete bust, costs the Sens $1M to watch from the press box until April.
    Verdict: Low-Risk, High Reward.

I disagree. The Hawks don't need another old, slow dman. They could have had Campbell for this price if they wanted.

Once Hossa officially goes on LTIR, I could see them signing Franson.
