Zaitsev VS Honka

Other D are : Burns, Deangelo, Niskanen, Slavin, Montour, Pouliot,

Would you trade Zaitsev for Honka on the premise that Honka is just a better talent and has a higher ceiling ?

Looking for you toughts / help on the matter.

I would keep Zaitsev... he is going to help you this year and he is not behind a stud fantasy D-man like Honka is on the depth chart.

And Toronto's young forwards are going to score lots in the near future... so Zaitsev will get points because of that.

I'd agree with you but this is a cap league.

How many more points is Zaitsev going to get than Honka? Is it worth the difference in cap hit? I think OP is better off saving some $, get slightly less production(and a bigger ceilling/upside).

Zaitsev is right handed.
The only other right handed defenders in Toronto are:
Carrick
Liljegren
Marchenko

Honka is right handed.
The only other right handed defenders in Dallas are:
Klingberg
Johns
Pateryn

I'll take Zaitsev over the next 3 years and maybe after that Honka takes over. Saying that I'd rather the sure thing in fantasy hockey, most of the time.

I have Zaitsev in my league, and, unless I could fill the void Id be creating by moving him, I wouldn't make the deal.

If you're cap strapped than I would ask for more than just Honka.

I wouldn't trade my Zaitsev for Honka. Wouldn't even consider it honestly, for the reasons stated above. Last year was his first playing North American hockey so I think his ceiling is TBD and unrelated to last year's numbers. He has the skillset and supporting cast to clear 45+. Also, his new contract screams "PP QB"

There is nothing about Zaitsev skillset that screams PPQB, IMO.

Realistically if they were used to their skill sets then Honka wins but right now you'd be paying for bottom minutes with the odd flash of upside at best with Honka next season imo so depends what you need for next season? Zaitsev will contribute throughout
