    Default Moving Byfuglien

    Hi!

After winning the title last year, I am in salary cap hell.

I'm looking at my options and one of them is to move Byfuglien for Darling and Klefbom.
Then I'd be able to move Rask, shedding approximatly 6M$.

Really not sure what to think of it. Last year, I almost traded Byfu after his salary increase and I'm glad I didn't since he basically was my best player.
Is it the year he starts declining or will he still post awesome stats for my league setup?

The game that he plays.. I think he will still put up great multi-cat coverage.

But on the other hand Darling could be the starting goalie for an up and coming team and Klefbom is ready to break out as the top D in Edmonton where points will come like crazy because of the McDavid factor. Tough call here... but if it is your only option to shed cap then you got to.

Byf - Rask downgraded to Klefbom & Darling + whatever you get for Rask. You're taking some serious horses out of your line up in the hopes you're getting horses back. I like Darling in Carolina a lot, and Klef looks poised, but man, Rask and Byf are just studs. Take into consideration this Jets offense is the best team Byf has ever played with and he could improve on last year.

Iwould pass and try to find other ways to cut salary for this year

You are smart to think of trading Buff - it's called selling high for a reason. While it will hurt to lose him, I think he's at risk for a large drop in production in the next year or two, plus his cap hit is sizeable.

That being said, you can and should be able to get more for him and Rask. Either you need to pit two teams against each other to compete for them, in which case the offers will keep going up, or you could wait until the season starts and a team realizes it needs Buff's contribution, at which point you can likely get more in return.

Either way, the fact that you're entertaining this is a good sign and should give yourself faith that you'll have the proper instinct to do the right thing when the time comes, either now or later.

Yikes - you're really thin after Buff. Forget what I said - you have to keep him and hope. I'd move Ekblad honestly, since he's still a name guy and I'd be shocked if he scores even 40 points in any of the next three seasons given his role and the presence of Yandle.

Ekblad is horrible value with his new contract. If you can get anything for him, deal him now. I would also dump Petry rather quickly as he also isn't worth his salary.

I would also consider trading Rielly if you can get good return for him. I think it will take him a couple of years before he's worth his salary in fantasy hockey leagues. But at least there's hope for him to get there some day, unlike with Ekblad and Petry.

I'd look to move any of those defenseman EXCEPT for Bfyuglien (for obvious reasons), Reilly (he'll be worth the cap hit IMO), Larsson (he's a stud in your hits/blcks format), and Petrovic (sneaky good value in a hits/blks league). I can't speak much to Carrick.

Everyone else is not worth the price.

I wouldn't be in any hurry to move either one of Rask or Buff. Shed salary elsewhere. I would be down for targeting Klefbom though.

You have way too much money tied up on your back end. If you want to keep all of those guys you have to gut your forwards and/or goalies.

    Simply cut Petry loose.

If someone in your league will give you anything for Ekblad you should take it and count yourself lucky. They are buying the name, not the stats and contract he comes with.

What about Simmonds and Zucker for Klefblom and Darling?

    Would that make more sense?

I'll see if there is any interest for Ekblad. I was planning on dropping Petry and Spurgeon.

I'll keep Byfuglien. It seems that since he received his big raise, I keep thinking of trading him. I'll repress that urge lol.
He did lead me to the win last year!

I'd be ok with this assuming you can move Ekblad.
