I own a cottage on a lake here in NS and like others have said, there are lots of bugs, especially late spring/early summer when most are trying to get them open. Of course, that's down here. It could be entirely different where you are.
Your profile says Toronto so you obviously get snow. Access to the cottage in the winter would be a question. If it's on a private road, who's responsible for plowing it out in the winter (or does it even get plowed). Things like that is what you need to find out. Garbage removal in the summer? Is there a truck that picks up the garbage or do you have to take it home and discard it with your home trash.
Even in the summer, you should think about heating. Early season as well as late season can bring some chilly nights & mornings.
