    Default Lakefront living?

Anyone live on a lake and/or have a cottage on a lake?

Considering buying lakefront property and just wondering if theres anything I need to know before dwelling further in the process.

If you own a lakefront property what is something you wish you knew before buying?

Would be a year round home and not seasonal.

    It's really windy
    Lots of horse flies
    Lots of mosquitos at night
    Sunset can blind you
    Winter is colder
    Everything echoes across the lake

But the best thing about living on a lake is. Your living on a lake and it's awesome!!!

I own a cottage on a lake here in NS and like others have said, there are lots of bugs, especially late spring/early summer when most are trying to get them open. Of course, that's down here. It could be entirely different where you are.

Your profile says Toronto so you obviously get snow. Access to the cottage in the winter would be a question. If it's on a private road, who's responsible for plowing it out in the winter (or does it even get plowed). Things like that is what you need to find out. Garbage removal in the summer? Is there a truck that picks up the garbage or do you have to take it home and discard it with your home trash.

Even in the summer, you should think about heating. Early season as well as late season can bring some chilly nights & mornings.

Thats all I can think of right now but I am sure more will come to me.
