Las Vegas Golden Knights Official Abbreviation?

Do any team official abbreviations use letters from their mascot name? I was thinking VGK, but I think most teams are just their city, unless there is a need to differentiate (NYI, NYR). Are the Kings LA or LAK?

I think computer-sorts (data compiling) force some teams to register 3 characters.
Some teams do have different ones.
I've seen Columbus as both CBJ and COB (Colorado is COL).
I've seen Tampa Bay as TB, TAM, and TBL.
I've seen Nashville as NAS & NSH.
And I've seen LA as LA, LAK, and LOS.
To be honest, I'm not sure which is "official".

I hate Yahoo's list - and I thought they got those straight from a data provider - and aside from NYI, NYR, NJD, no... all teams are location based 3-letter only (except... well... VGK)

Las Vegas Golden Knights was deemed too big and clumsy of a name. They couldn't just drop the "colour" and go with Knights because of copyrights with the London Knights when playing in Canada so they ditched the "Las" portion of the name.

Hmmm. Really? I?ve actually found the opposite to be the case, in most cases anyway. But Foley expands the thought: ?Las Vegas Golden Knights is four words. Vegas Golden Knights, three words. Easier. It just sounds better as three words, like ?Let?s go Knights! Let?s go Knights!?

The name is certain to be whittled casually to ?Knights? anyway, and as one fan pointed out just minutes after the announcement, ?He paid $500 million for the team. He can call it what he wants.?

Tampa Bay Devil Rays, for example.
Became Tampa Bay Rays.

I will as soon as Vegas is declared a state, but Florida is a weird example, naming a team after the state when there is another team in the state? I was okay with Phoenix changing to Arizona, but it would be weird if Calgary changed their name to Alberta Flames when Edmonton is playing in the same province, but I digress.

Also, if we're dropping Las from Vegas as an official name, then why not drop Los from Angeles...you know, other than Vegas is hugely popular.

Anyway, I was genuinely interested in the official acronym. Looks like VGK is the leading candidate.

Well the Kings officially have the Los in their name, so that's the difference......

CBJ, TBL. Some do, some dont. It is LAK.

NJD and SJS are ones i've seen used often as well. so its not uncommon to use the team name in teh abbreviated 'official' team title..as official as it gets i suppose though.

The default is to use a 3 letter combination that is based on the teams location: Ana, Edm, Cgy, Fla, Pit,
The only time this doesn't happen is New York: NYR and NYI
or where the location is a clear 2 letter abbrevation LA-K, TB-L, NJ-D, SJ-S
Admittedly Columbus is an outlier with CBJ presumably as COL was taken by Colorado and there's no other clear 3 letter abbreviation for Columbus

given that they've dropped the Las from Las Vegas I assume they'll go with VEG as that's the most instantly recognisable 3-letter combination available. It makes more sense than VGK which has to be un-jumbled in the mind. VEG = Vegas.

Yeah I guess that's the other option they could have gone with. ESPN actually uses "CLS" which is super bizarre to me and always takes me a minute to figure out.
