yea this is the only thing that makes sense to me.

no way the sens couldn't beat a 2020 2nd for a top 4D that paired well with their best player. it has to be salary related, that phaneuf deal is getting worse by the day lol.

shame they have such a cheap owner, the sens could be a yearly cup contender otherwise.

Can't believe a team gave a late 1st round pick for Ryan Reaves and no team was ready to give a late 1st round pick for Methot. Or probably some teams were ready to make it but they were all on the no-trade list.

can we stop talking about Ottawa now? This was a Vegas - Dallas trade. Ottawa said a week ago they didn't want him... it's time to let it go and move on

Good deal for Dallas. I don't think Methot is a superstar but on a team that desperately needed some leadership back there, this is a solid trade for a coach like Hitch. I like it. Dallas will like it and Ben Bishop should like it too.

You must be referring to the interview where Dorion says that he wasn't on the same page with McPhee and the price was just too steep? lol

    Lol

Pre expansion soon draft was a different tune too.

We'll see how effective Method is in the big bad West.

Lots of numbers suggest Methot is already terrible. So this could end up being net nothing for both teams. In terms of NPV, a 2020 2nd is equivalent to like a 2017 5th or so. Maybe less. So Dallas gave basically nothing.

Low risk move by Dallas. Methot could continue to be a top 4 dman, or could be awful. Regardless they gave up essentially nothing.

Yeah, it's tough to say they couldn't pay up with a 2nd from next year's draft.

I still feel like Dallas just got a gift here. Regardless of whether we think Methot can hack it as a top 4 in the West, he can walk and chew gum, so I'm surprised at the cheap price. Why wouldn't Vegas taken Claessen then and hope he develops? I'm confused.

GMGM needs some sleep and he needs to let the market peculate.

Agree with Moses... Loved the position that GMGM was in going into the draft, and though I get he needed to build a whole franchise's depth, he didn't need to do it in one draft and I'm wondering over a few of these picks and moves

He had the right theory, the rest of the league just caved his head in with the execution.

Do note that 2017 draft was weak where late first pretty much had the same value as 2nds. And 2018 draft is apparently a good one with a fair amount of good players in rounds 1 and 2.
