Huge for Klingberg, who scored at a 57 point pace in the two seasons where Goligoski was tethered to him

Interesting trade - more in the sense that I would expect Ottawa would've at least offered as much.

It suggests one of two things:
    i) GMGM played hardball with Ottawa - asked for a first - didn't get it - and had to settle for the BO (best offer) - which was Dallas'
    or
ii) Ottawa is just fine using another D-partner with Karlsson.

The big winner in this could be Fredrik Claesson, who has a $650k cap hit for next year.
Claesson did play several minutes with Karlsson to finish last season.
It will be interesting if he's the new pairing... could be a nice fantasy-hockey value pick.

And the open spot gives a place for Thomas Chabot.
So there is two discount kids into the 6D... which could allow them a good opportunity to add a middle-6 forward.

This trade has nothing to do with Ottawa, so to say the big winner could be Claesson is wrong because Methot was long gone and forgot about when Vegas took him with their expansion selection.

Also, just a quick clarification on your two discount kids remark. The Sens have 8 D as of right now. So this does not open up a spot that is guaranteed for Chabot to come in and take. Everyone forgets about Borowiecki and I assume you did as well? Or maybe you forgot about Wideman? Either way, yes, I agree about a Claesson. Wideman only makes 800 I think and Boro only 1.1.

It is a cheap...but tested and proven blueline with only the two real rookies being Harpur and Chabot out of their 8 signed Dmen. Karlsson, Ceci, Phaneuf, Borowiecki, Wideman, Claesson, Harpur and Chabot.

    Dallas robbed Vegas.

Methot appears to really boost the defensive depth for Dallas. They have also addressed the goalie situation and moved on from Ruff.

Things are coming together in Big D.
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

Have to disagree... if Methot was long gone and forgotten about by the expansion draft... there wouldn't still be threads talking about the impact his loss will have on Ottawa today. it's funny, he was the best thing since sliced bread while playing with Karlsson, now he's completely replaceable. Ott might be able to replace the minutes with Karlsson, but 65%+ of 5X5 TOI with one player -- there's chemistry there that is A LOT HARDER to replace. Ottawa played like a different team when Methot was out of the line up. His presence made a difference over the past couple years. That's pretty much a fact.

Let's look at Chicago. They traded Hjalmarsson and got back Murphy - he's better than Methot, no doubt, but they got a good Dman back to replace him.
Everyone still talks about the whole left on that blueline without him.
Ottawa lost their Hjalmarsson (don't say it's Ceci, that would be ridiculous) and did not get anything to replace him.
There's a gaping 20m per game hole in the Sens top 4 that has not been filled.

You can pick any roster player you want and plug him in to Methot's spot and say, 'there he's been replaced' on paper all you want.
It's no that easy once he steps on the ice.

    Replacing Methot will take time
