Bodes well for Mike Smith! I'm also afraid to see what they paid though :s
per friedman...not sure why they need another top 4D. What did they give up...Bennett? 1st +?

Asking price was two 1st round picks, so I'm guessing something with similar value. Friedman mentioned something about a 1st round pick, prospect and another draft pick.
As per Pierre LeBrun
Rest of Hamonic deal: believe Isles get a 1st RD pick, two 2nd RD picks while Flames also get a 4th RD pick back

I don't understand this deal for the Islanders. Hamonic is a really good, young player signed to a great contract. What's the urgency to get rid of him? I thought his need to be closer to home was resolved already and he wanted to stay with the Islanders. And the return isn't all that good, maybe because teams knew they wanted to get rid of him.
would Galchenyuk for Hamonic have been an overpayment by the habs? Thought this deal was possible
He's okay...not worth a 1st and two 2nds IMO. Hamonic gets more kudos than he deserves. What I like is he'll slot in well at the #4 spot beside Brodie and won't have to carry a huge workload, and he'll be happy at home being back in the West. If they become more competitive then those picks will be close to the back end of each round. Flames are burning through picks though.
Also surprised the Isles weren't going after an upgraded roster player at another position given the Tavares situation if they were intent on moving Hamonic. Being as competitive as possible now would seem to be more urgent than stockpiling picks ... Unless Snow intends to use them/some as currency to upgrade the current roster.

He's a solid 3/4 Dman on a good contract and he shoots right. All those things add up to big value in todays NHL.
I don't think he's worth that much and Calgary overpaid a tad but it is what it is.

I was always a fan of Stone... Personally I liked the Flames D already and I like it even more now... The Isles side has to hint at another deal surely? Otherwise, and I like the picks, I'm not convinced they are better without him
