I think Marner and Gaudreau might get real close, real soon.

Leafs handily are the better team down the middle
Marner, Nylander = Gaudreau - next season will help convince you

it's a bit hard to compare Leafs roster to any team right now due to the sheer number of rookies. They're still carving out their ceilings. Whereas Cgy has more defined their top six and nine. Leafs have a lot more depth in scoring up front. That's not really much of a debate... and they're mostly 2nd year players.

The teams balance out when comparing D to D,
Interesting little jump you did there.

    Backlund > Kadri
    Bennett > Bozak

Sure but we aren't talking to years from now, we're talking right now.

I think it might be as soon as next season....

You already know how I feel about Bennett... next year is a big year for him. Right now, I might have taken Nylander and JVR ahead of him easily. Kadri and Backlund are a wash.. Tkachuk and Nylander could be a wash but they play really different styles..

I dunno man, it's pretty close up front and Matthews is obviously an x-factor, being a generational talent. No one on the Flames is that. Gaudreau is the closest thing..

    I mean. This isn't a Flames-Leafs thread, but:

I'll take Gaudreau, Ferland, Tkachuk, Frolik over Marner, JVR, Nylander, and Komorov, or any other 4th winger you choose for the top 6.

I'd take Matthews over Monahan obviously, but I'll take Backlund and Bennett over Kadri and Bozak.

Bottom of the roster is meh for both, but it's basically a wash.

I don't see a huge difference between TOR/CGY forward core, I'd group them in the same tier for now.

CGY no doubt has the better D, but that doesn't mean they will finish higher than the leafs. I couldn't guarentee either team is making the playoffs next season

The one big win for Toronto is Andersen is the clear better goalie and it's not very close.

I would bounce back on that, that Mike Smith makes that a lot closer next year than it was two months ago.

Overall, the teams are pretty close, just entirely different in make-up. But I'll always choose Leafs

Hamonic - Flames new Robin Regehr. I like how the Flames are starting to look. Especially letting Chiasson walk today.

I think Chaisson sucks, but they might still re-sign him. Not qualifying him was about is arbitration rights.
