What does this move mean for DeAngelo? Is this a better or worse spot for him than in PHX? Where might he slot in NY? I understand the kid has some off-ice/temperamental issues, but I'm more concerned about his on-ice abilities.

I think it's a positive move for him. I like what ARZ is building, but there I think he'd always be second fiddle to OEL for the prime offensive minutes. Whereas it wouldn't surprise me if DeAngelo is the 1 in a 4F 1D power play setup in New York (pending, I suppose, any other infusions by the Rangers).

tons of talent up front to dish to. if he can get regular pp time and top 4 min. I could see 40pts next year. Even with Shattenkirk signing, in a regular role 40pts should still be doable. Skjei could take a hard hit. and Ryan Graves sits in the AHL another year.

There's a chance Shattenkirk lands there so there would be at least him in front of DeAngelo. McDonagh and Skjei as well. DeAngelo's problem is more about himself and his inconsistencies than it is about the people above him on the depth chart. Overall I see it as more of a sideways move.

Agreed with Eric here. I think this is a depth move but the rangers have other options that I would use first. Great talent don't get me wrong but I think less completion in Arizona after te top guy of course.

He can score that is for sure, but he is pretty weak in his own end. So unless he starts to get better there then I do not see him as anything much more than a PP specialist. AV will know how to use him.

Hopefully he just stops talking, but he may still have a suspension or 50 in his future with the crap he says/pulls

The trick for De A will be to stay out of Coach V's doghouse. Can't see it happening though.

    I hope that DeAngelo finds his groove. I don't think he's a shoe-in for top 4 minutes.

Like Rodgort says, his EV strength playing time will be significantly less than McDonaugh and Skjei. Even Klein and Holden could be trusted more by Coach V.

Certainly DeAngelo is more offensively talented but this could mean a bit more of a PP specialist role - think 16 minutes at 30 points.

Of course, if he steps up, earns trust, and plays 20+ minutes, 40 points is more than doable.

I think you also described Kevin Shattenkirk quite nicely there. I think it was pretty obvious after the trade to Washington that he isn't a top-pair D-man. Maybe now that they have DeAngelo, the Rangers stay away from Shattenkirk unless his contract demands go way down (I believe he's looking for $6M+).

McDonagh-Skjei, Graves-Holden, Staal-DeAngelo. They could go with something like that. I believe Klein is going to retire from the NHL.

please god no Shattenkirk...please. I have a feeling they might try to move even higher in this draft tonight. Of course I work until 7 on the dot this one day of the month when all other days I leave at 5.

I don't think this trade affects Deangelo's value at all. He remains a borderline NHL dmen who is just as likely to be in the AHL then he is to be playing in the NHL next season.
