"Blackhawks wanted some cost certainty moving forward. Didn't think they could re-sign Panarin or Hjalmarsson in 2 yrs."
Points-only keeper league. 12 teams. Keep any 12 players. Dress 12F - 6D - 2G.
This made me laugh.....
@TSNBobMcKenzie
Stan Bowman doesn't believe this signals taking a step back. Says Saad's 5-on-5 offence equal to Panarin, tho they will miss Panarin on PP.
So isn't that a step back?!?
Forsberg as the new backup would be interesting.

"Wennberg to Werenski to Panarin -- scores!!!".
Panarin owners -- I wouldn't be concerned about this at all. At least... that's what I keep telling myself.
Chicago needed more long-term certainty and obviously weren't going to be able to afford Panarin when it came to resigning him. They will simply add in their college signings/drafted prospects to the lineup as they do year after year.
CBJ keeps on improving. CHI taking a minor step backwards (if at all) but remain a serious playoff contender and solidify goaltending future with Forsberg.

This is exactly how I was looking at it. In 2 years Panarin goes for well more than $6 mil if he keeps putting up 70. So he's gone. Might as well have Saad for the extra 2 years, especially if you think he brings more in playoffs and/or can help get Toews back on track as an offensive force.
Hjalmarsson we wouldn't be able to afford in 2 years either, but his loss will hurt more in the short term.
We Hawks fans have long since gotten used to the fact that management makes drastic moves to deal with their two $10 mil contracts and the associated cap consequences. In Bowman I continue to trust.
Also don't undertaker why this "in two year" sudden mania. Aren't they used to dismantle teams just after winning the cup? Why are the planning beyond the next 2 years now?
By the way, I'm not changing my Avatar to reflect the new jersey.
