Best things we can say for Edm is they clear cap (especially with Mcdavid/Draisaitl contracts coming up) and Strome can play C. So this give Edm the flexibility to trade Nuge, and/or move Draisaitl to McDavid's wing more permanently.

I think Chiarelli is a terrible GM but this trade seems pretty fair only because they moved Eberle's contract.
I do not think they will turn Strome's career around, in fact I think he went to the worst location possible to turn his fortunes. But they saved $$$ which they will certainly need soon.

If Garth Snow is able to squeeze Matt Duchene out of COL with a 1 for 1 trade for Hamonic or DeHaan, then I gotta give props where it's due even though he's a bit of a flake GM. A definite effort to make Tavares resign.

Cap dump, plain and simple. They need the space to sign Draisaitl for this upcoming season and need the space for McDavid's new deal (which will also get done after July 1st). Strome can play the right side and Caggiula has already shown he can skate with McDavid as well.
