Orlov has convinced me. He's done well the past two years despite non-ideal conditions for putting up points. There's something to him and I think he'll be well over 40 once the conditions are right.

if Orlov ever gets the right scenario as stated above the guy can put up points, he has an absolute bomb of a slapper.

Yes but.... when is that ideal situation going to arrive? He's already top 4 ES, paired mostly with Niskanen and getting decent ice. But unless the Caps change up the PP to a 3-2, Carlson (32.4%) and Niskanen (17.4%) absorb the majority of PP time. Orlov had 3%. Loved his progression last year, but I have a sense he is caught pending either Niskanen or Carlson moving on-not likely immediately unless Carlson bails next year on UFA. Anyone have any insight there? As an owner, I am kind of hoping for a RFA renegotiation that prompts a trade somewhere where he could get the PP ice.

Give me Vatanen, but I like Orlov too. I'd like to see if their respective situations change over the summer. If all things stay the same, I think I stick with Vatanen.

who knows honestly it could never come but hypothetically speaking I would pair Carlson/Orlov full time despite Alzner being better defensively. Alas I am not Trotz so this is pure speculation but one can only hope as he enters age 26 season this year which is on average a real breakout age for D. In all reality Alzner will be a roadblock always if he stays, if he leaves as a UFA that changes everything.

So this is the issue with Orlov-breakout requires opportunity, I am not seeing how he gets choice minutes to go 40+. Vatanen, either on the Ducks or elsewhere, seems to have a higher likelihood of fantasy opportunity, so, I would keep Vatanen .

I think I like Orlov more here, but it is a close call. I think they could both come close to 40 pts, but I think Orlov's situation is a little better.

There is such a log jam in Anaheim...Vatanen, Lindholm, Fowler, and Montour could all share PP time (and in a points-only league, it is all about power play time).

In Washington, with Shattenkirk and Schmidt no longer in the picture, I could see Orlov getting a fair amount of power play time, mostly on the second unit.

Vatanen also just had a 24-point season. Even with opportunity he's not a lock to have a great year. In fact Orlov demolished him despite a lesser opportunity.

I like Orlov but I am not ready to give up on Vatanen just yet. I still prefer him a tad more. One more stinker season and I will back off but until I see that, I still think his upside is higher than Orlov's.

Points only is Orlov's worst format, and there's still always the back of the mind concern about him reverting to his Band-Aid Boy ways. Vatanen isn't the golden boy anymore, but he's probably the better of these two in your format, at least based on how things stand currently.
