    Default Draft Strategy Advice

Starting a new 10 man, 42 round keeper draft. Yep. 42. Its a Snake draft.

Got a lot of draft prep to do.

    I'm picking 10th. So I have 10th and 11th.

Someone who picks 5th has offered to swap places with me. Any advice on the pros/cons of picking earlier in the first? It'll be a cap league, so cap heavy guys really go down the draft list.

The guy in 5th wants to swap every one of your picks, or he wants to just swap 5/16 for 10/11?
Either way I probably prefer the side with the 5.

In a cap league you don't want to set yourself up for failure with the big contracts. You can always trade for them later. The guys with longer term have more value, and the goalies should be pushed down the list because it's a 10 team league. Make sure you grab a couple guys in the mid rounds like Boeser and Montour that can step in now on their rookie deals.

.... That and the cap guys always go later in the draft so be patient. Likes of Kopitar etc may be seen as undraftable by some but truth is you draft well initially you can land some late round bargains

He has offered to trade the draft position for the entire draft. Ultimately, long term, it really doesn't make a difference.

Swing picks can be good when used effectively, but in an inaugural draft like this I would much rather not miss the runs, and be picking in the middle of each round.

Not sure I'd want to trade all picks in one shot like that. Maybe start with 5/16 for 10/11 if you're comfortable with that? Maybe that opens up more trading down the line (I assume you'll can't trade assets until after the draft is complete?).

He wants to trade to have back to back picks. Maybe he likes pairs or something.

I don't have a list prepared, but I'd rather start with the 5th pick and go from there.

    I'd switch positions with him.
