Smith is more "win now" than Hellebuyck, but only for the next season (at most). I'd be tempted to trade for the new Flames netminder, but ultimately would keep Helly.
I came in 3rd last year with a 3 goalie combination of Rask, dubnyk and hellybuck. Hellybuck was the only goalie I started the season with as Rask and dubnyk were acquired through trades throughout the year. (started last year with bishop, Schneider and hellybuck)
Just wondering with the Smith trade to Calgary, would he be a prime trade target to replace hellybuck, or hold tight with hellybuck, as he is the younger option and is my 3rd option in net and therefore worth waiting on?
25 man roster, 20 player keeper, goalie cats are 2 points for a win, 5 bonus points for shutout.
Coincidentally, the same gm who I have been treating 1st round picks with lately, also owns Smith. Lol

That's kind of my thought as well. It's tempting, but with 2 other top goalies, I think hellybuck might be worth holding onto. As he grows into the top netminder, he will eventually replace one of the other 2. Other idea was to not keep hellybuck and draft darling at 8th or 9th. But would he be more of a question mark than hellybuck? And would he even be there at 8 or 9?

Helly is the better third goalie imo
Experience is the teacher of all things.
Keep Helley. He's the future in Winnipeg and even though he struggled last year, that was expected growing pains. I'm not convinced Smith is a great option as he's 35 and the track record at that age isn't good. Maybe you get 1-2 seasons of league average goaltending with smith, which Helley should be able to do that, if not better, as early as next season (and continue to improve since he's so young).

Those were my thoughts as well. Always good to get another opinion though.
Would help to know the number of teams in the league, to get a better sense of goalie values.
But as a 3G, I'd go Helly (future)>Darling>Smith. And if Darling is still there at 8 or 9, I might take him anyways....if your league is deep.
Helley easily in a dynasty

I think you have to keep hellboy.
Keep Helly if it's your 3rd goalie.
I expect Smith to put up decent numbers with a better team in front of him, but his upside at this point is probably 2.45 GAA/.918 SV% which would put him somewhere in the 9-15 range. Helly has the upside to be elite, and although I don't expect that to happen this year, if it did and you kept a 36 year old Smith over him you would be kicking yourself for a very long time.
Helle all day, every day, and twice on Sundays.
