So they broke him, and now they are willing to give back his shell...

That's just horrible. Completely destroyed a young man's life over a stupid little offense.

I'm sure Trump will take credit for this. After all, didn't he promise to make sure no Americans ever suffered because of terrorism???

Yeah, I'm assuming he voluntarily went to North Korea? Another do gooder succumbs to evil regime. Did he not think something bad might happen to him? What was he hoping to accomplish? I just can't drum up much sympathy for this young man. Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy that bad things happened to him, but this is how na?ve and/or stupid people get weeded out of the gene pool.

Somehow I never heard about any of this until now. What an idiot. If you're that stupid and ignorant, just stay in the US.

Ya. It's North Korea....he should have known

But he apparently had foodborne botulism and then they gave him a sleeping pill, then he slipped into a coma....

Some notes tho. Lost in translation could be the diagnosis of botulism, and something like Ecoli, listeria, or salmonella could be what caused him to be sick. Botulism pretty much makes you paralyzed, so breathing becomes an issue because you can't control the muscles that make you breath, so he could have slipped into a coma on his own (coma=when brain can't get enough oxygen so body goes into like a battery save mode). North Korea isn't exactly truthful either.

But out of everything, people with botulism shouldn't be taking sleeping pills.

With the Americans, it's hard to discount this line of reasoning.

I once watched one of my classmates smuggle a bag full of contraband stuff through Soviet customs in 1989 Moscow at the risk of the entire Canadian school group. There was enough there for a major incident (i.e. full KGB officer uniform for example) and likely a long stay at the pleasure of the locals. I'd chalk it up to the invincibility fallacy of youth.

I see one doctor said it is very unlikely that he will ever wake up. Apparently he blinks but is unresponsive to anything. Just blinks....terrible
