For me, Risto doesn't make it into the top 10 yet. OEL and Krug are a little better. Keith should make it into spots 10-12.. but he has played so much hockey and I don't know how long he lasts there. I probably have Letang ahead of Josi if not for the injuries. I also slide Kling down a bit. Maybe #8..

It's not crazy. What are your criteria because if were banking on pure upside next year, Letang is #2. Hedman could end up being closer to 10-15 then 2 if he looses PP1 time.

I'm a huge Subban fan(see avatar) but I don't know if he can be a solid producer if Laviolette keeps using him as a set-up man on the PP(And separating him from Josi ont he PP).

I think Shattenkirk should be ahead of OEL and Keith.

The worst will be Ristolainen, but not by much. The best will be Hamilton or Shattenkirk (dependant on where he signs). Just have a feeling about Hamilton being an explosive weapon on Calgary's blueline.

Buff's got 7(!) straight seasons of 53-ish points (pro-rated in 2 of those seasons). Who can touch that consistency? Unless that doesn't factor into your lists, and you're strictly trying to guess exactly how many points everyone will get, he needs to be higher (at least 6 or 7, but no lower than 8). Consistency is golden. I said the same thing to you last year.

was strongly considering having the big bad buffer next on my list. so far i'm set on this list

    1. Erik Karlsson (OTT)
    2. Brent Burns (SJ)
    3. Victor Hedman (TB) - i had hedman #2 but after further deliberations and the fact that most people think he will regress from last years totals i put him at #3
    4. Kris Letang (PIT)
    5. Roman Josi (NAS)
    6. P.K. Subban (NAS)
    7. John Klingberg (DAL)

part of me doesn't trust OEL after what he did last season, Ducan Keith ... 34 years old when will he tail off, Werenski ... can he really build off of last season? ... Risto is another one i like, he looks like a beast but can i really put him ahead of the buffer? dont think so at the moment, will the buffer start regressing soon? north of 30 and isn't the best physically conditioned player out there, hmmmmmm

    For me:

    70+
    Karlsson

    60+
    Burns

    50+
Subban, Hedman, Letang (health permitting), Buff, Josi, Klingberg, Shattenkirk, Keith... honestly, they get packed in here.
There's a bunch of guys that can jump up from high 40s... and these guys could slip into high 40s if their PP trips up.

FWIW - Risto is fringe 50s, IMO.
He did have 24 PPA and the BUF even-strength scoring is coming.

Seth Jones actually had 35 ESP... so he could make the jump.
I ragged on Ghost a lot, but his game improved leaps in late 2017 after the benchings.
I've switched gears on him and think he'll be 50+ next year.

    I think that's 10 names.
I really, really, really hate rankings though for things like this.
Tiering, IMO, has much more value in seeing the gaps between Karlsson... Burns... Subban et al...
Otherwise one could assume #3 is close to #2 and that #8 is obviously better than #9.
Too fuzzy by 1-10 rank and... IMO... deceiving.

I agree with all of this. For me, with those grouped players in that 50 point range, it's largely about risk management. Most of those players don't have a 70 point season in them, and if they do it's hard to predict. Others are injury prone. I would take sure bets over sexy picks (usually young players, or players on a new team), or boom or bust picks. A screw up with your top couple of D selections can really screw your team.
