I also don't understand what makes Greiss a tier 1 goalie. He in no way has solidified his presence as the Isles #1 and his 2016-17 numbers aren't better than league average. His career marks also don't really suggest that tier... I dunno.. Allen below Mrazek is also a headscratcher.. but hey.. you gotta draw some lines somewhere. I'd have him at about 13-15 on this list... He shouldn't make it into the top 10, though. Not yet.

I have felt this way for a while. Dobber is not very high on Vasilevskiy, and I'm sure he must have his reasons. Personally I am super high on him, and the only guys on the list I would trade him for straight up in my dynasty league are Holtby, Price, Talbot and Murray. Andersen and Gibson I would be tempted and would have to consider. I would not consider any of the others. I also have Hellebuyck and I would be open to trading him for any of the top 13 guys on the list, but he is ranked 4 spots higher than Vasi. Go figure.

he's inconsistent and overall unproven. Goes on hot tears that he follows up with absolute stinker stretches. Most the goalies in front of him are proven, I do not agree with Griess and Mrazek but I am sure Dobber has legit reasoning for his placement.

Low, yes, but not terribly low. He's an unproven goalie on a team which didn't win enough games in 2016-17 to make the playoffs.

I don't think he is too low. He hasn't really proved anything over a full season where all others have. If he can stay consistent next year he will rocket up the list as Tampa is good, but he could also be very inconsistent and lose his job for stretches to whatever back-up they bring in (Likely Budaj)

For a one year league maybe 24 isn't too low (although I'd still argue it is). I would be very surprised though if he was the 24th goalie off the board in a new keeper league draft this year. Like, really really surprised.

This isn't the right way of looking at it though, because Dobber explicitly states that he doesn't care about ranking and that any Tier 1 goalie is worth the same to him as any other Tier 1 goalie, same with Tier 2, etc. Meaning that Matt Murray, Cam Talbot, Thomas Greiss and Henrik Lundqvuist are all equal in value to him, just like MAF, Schneider, Vasilevskiy and Halak are all same value to him.

I guess some of us just read too much into the rankings because it is human nature to do so.

24th is a tad high, but as an unproven starter not that out of the question. I think Vas and Hellebuyck should be both be about 20th and 21st on the list. Flip them either way you like but for now they are locked together as 2 promising young starting goalies. The next few years will truly determine both of their values.

Didn't Vas go on a really bad run when Bishop was initially traded before then turning it around...?

He started when Bishop got injured I believe a few months before he was traded. When Bishop was moved, Vas started playing a tad better if I remember correctly. I'll try to look up his game logs later but from what I remember in my 1-year league, Vasilevskiy was killing me when I picked him up after Bishop got injured so I eventually dropped him and no one bothered picking him up even after Bishop was sent to LA.

I owned Bishop so I was watching Vas a lot; initially after the trade he was lights out and then he just went to the gutter, such was the start of a reoccurring cycle of hot and cold. My opponent Round 1 had him and it's safe to say his terrible cold spell during that match helped me advance.

Woah ya...Given his situation Im not sure how he's behind Mrazek, Fleury (he's a backup!), Elliott, Anderson and Helle. Makes no sense to me. Like Helle has proved ZERO plus is on a worse team. At least Vas proved he could take the share of games at the end.

hot and cold aint gonna cut it in fantasy hockey, im not surprised by the somewhat low rating for vasi. doesnt matter if the team in front of you is good if you let in 3 a game.

Only ranking I think is a bit odd is Fleury. Him having value would rely on him getting traded/going to Vegas. While probable, not a guarantee. I don't see any of the potential teams that would acquire him to be good except for MAYBE Calgary. All these unknowns and hes a top-15 goalie? i dont know about that, he very well could be the Pittsburgh backup again next year

I don't believe Dobber's lists really get an overhaul until after the entry draft. For what it's worth, I had Vasilevskiy 7th for next season in my Way Too Early goalie rankings.

Don't get me wrong I think every goalie goes up and down but I always see these rankings as a what have you done for me lately - Fleury's hot spell to start the play offs (realistically he got pulled from the starting gig after one rough outing) warrants him being relevant again and will probably land a starting gig this Summer - same with Anderson - he's Ottawa's de facto number one, Helly has nothing behind him and the Jets should be back intact, Elliott is potentially the debatable one after a rough play offs and uncertainty where he lands (maybe he even ends up in Tampa as a 1b depending on his contract) but Tampa still has an uncertain Summer and will be interesting to see what that team looks like come October
