Who to expose in Expansion?
Not a trade question, but doesn't fit in other forums either.
We're expanding this year in our Dynasty Keeper league.
It's a points-only keeper where the top 12 F, top 6 D and top G count toward the total.
I'd say it's best to hold on to forwards that can get 45+, D that can get 30+.
My team finished 2nd last year, so I'm in the mix (although the top team is really solid).
We need to expose 12 guys and the expansion team grabs ONE. Most of the guys I'm exposing are easy choices I think.
Help me pick who else to protect from this group -- I need another 2 to protect (the others will be exposed):
A. Martinez
A. Goligoski
T. Sanheim
V. Dunn
P. Stastny
N. Gusev
J. Bracco
M. Barzal
If anything, my defense could use depth. I've got Krug, Hamilton, Josi, Pietrangelo, Gosisbehere, and Suter -- but then Martinez and Goligoski are probably next in line (with Chabot also being protected).

First blush my instincts say Stastny and maybe Martinez. But I wouldn't go against Stastny/Barzal either. Gusev is a bit of a wildcard. Whenever I run into these kind of situations (where I roughly equally value a few guys and can only keep 1-2) I like to see if there's any takers out there in my pool, so it may not hurt to shop Stastny around and see if you can get anything for him and then keep 2 other guys you value around the same.

To clarify: I need to expose 12 -- I only lose one of the guys I don't protect -- so shopping guys doesn't help.
The expansion team already took 13 players off waivers--he didn't gamble much, so I'm slightly hopeful he won't know Gusev... but who knows...

I'd protect Stastny and Barzal and hope that he grabs Goli

I'd protect Martinez and Stastny. You're a competitive team, the rest are just lotto tickets that you've already proven you can acquire.

Repped all the responses. I was actually leaning toward leaving Stastny exposed (simply because he seems to struggle to get to 45).

I would protect Martinez and then flip a coin on Barzal and Gusev. Would probably protect Barzal as I assume he's a more familiar name and more likely to get scooped.

Personally I'd keep Barzal and Gusev. The rest of those guys, albeit useful, are not irreplaceable. Let the expansion take one average player and save your lottery tickets.

Not so much another gear as he's the new Muzzin apparently, i.e., 35-40+ points downside, and a chance at more given the new coach. Nothing to sneeze at.

I was gonna say Barzal and one of Goli or Martinez.. but I could see a case to keep Gusev, since it lets you gamble on upside and leave very repleaceable depth on the table.
